PHILIPSBURG - Located east of Clearfield along route 322.

Pinchatouly - Located in Graham township which was formed in 1856.  Some surnames in the area:  Hubler; Turner; Crowell; Dale; Smeal; Curley; McGuire and Kyler

Plymptonville - Located in Lawrence township, named for Job Plympton, who started his machine shops there in 1872.

RETORT- Located in Rush township near Sandy Ridge.  In 1879, W.J. Jackson started maufacturing fire bricks. 

ROCKTON- Located between Clearfield and  DuBois.  Rev. John Brubaker, an Mennonite minister and his wife Barbara came from Snyder county to Rockton in 1839.  Other settlers:  Welty; LaBorde; Bailey; Kirk; Hollopeter; Gelnett; Spicher; Beers;  Clouser; Kougher; Pentz; Seyler; and Shaffer.

SHAWVILLE - Located east of Clearfield along route 879.  Named for Judge Richard Shaw one of the residents.  Other surnames in the area:  Buck; Maines; Mayhew; Shirey

SMOKE RUN - Formerly known as Muddy Run and was settled  in the mid 1880's by the Ball and Beyer families.  Charles Correl Ball was one of the first settlers.  The town had two mid wives Mrs. Lloyd and Eva Finch.

SPRING VALLEY - Located in Boggs and Bradford townships.  The school built in 1827, teachers were Lois Fox; Gertrude Locket and Kay Smith.  The Spring Valley United Methodist Chruch was founded in 1873 and deeded for land given by William  and Harriet Gallaher.  Trustees at that time were John Turner and Israel Wisor.

STONEVILLE- Located in Boggs township.   Formerly known as Marysville.   The area was on the line of the old Erie Turnpike. Alexander Stone came here from England and bought land where he built the first hotel in Boggs Township.  One of the first settlers was John Stone b. 1845, d. 1922, his wife Emma, b. 1861, d. 1923, buried in Stoneville Cemetery.  Other surnames of settlers:  Hess; Haney; Wisor; Merritt; Dimeling; Lippert; Shugarts; Stevenson; Stiner; Hudson; Morgan; Stevenson; Litz; and Royer.

STONACH - Located between Grampian and Curwensville in Penn Township.  Founded in 1850 by Thomas and Jane Stronach who came from England.   Stronach was the birthplace of Rober Beers, a professional violinst and concert artist.  He was married to Evelyn Anderson.  Along with their daugther Martha they became know as the Beers Family Concert Artists of Traditional Music.   Mr. Beers died on May 26, 1972.

TATERVILLE - Located along the Calendonia Pike in Goshen township, known for hunting camps.
Taterville was named in the early 1980's by Kenneth Maines of Kerr Addition, Clearfield who knew Daniel Lee Tater Condon.    Daniel died in 1972 at the age of 80, he was a well know sportsman and one of the original members of the Pioneer Camp, established in 1922.  The camp was orginally a one room schoolhouse  The Caladonia Pike was once a stagecoach route.  On the  other side of Taterville was the Mose Leigey Farm, a former stagecoach stop, now gone. A store in the area owned by Jake Camels.

TROUTVILLE - Located in Brady township  along route 410 in Clearfield co.  Named for Jacob Trautvwein who came to the area in 1832.  He started the first hotel in 1845.The first postmaster was Jacob Kuntz who came here from Germany with is wife and 3 children in 1830.  First council members:  H.E.Ginter; R.M.Knarr; George Schucker; George A Weber; John Haag and D.W. Rishel.  This area has become home to several Amish families.

TYLER - Located near the Elk county line in Huston township in Penfield.  Named for David Tyler who first came to the area in 1848 and was employed by John DuBois, the lumberman that the town of DuBois was named for.  Phoebe Tyler donated a parcel of land to the Presbyterian Chruch and the Methodist Episcopal church to be used as a Union church.

WEST DECATUR  -   Located in Boggs township in the estern part of Clearfield county.  Native Americans  in the area:  Lennie Lenapes (the Delaware) and the Mengwe ( became known as the five nations, Mohawks, Oneidas, Onondagas, Cayugas and Senecas) also know to the French as Iroquois.  West Decatur, formerly known as Blue Ball.

WESTOVER - Located along route 36 south of Clearfield between LaJose and the Clearfield/Cambria County line.  T.S. Williams built the first house about 1840.  James McEwen constructed the first sawmill.  In 1837 Jonathan and Joseph Westover arrived and also their brothers William and John.
William F. Mosser built the tannery in 1890 and ran the tannery until his death in 1907.
