I DIGESTED YOUR SHIT TODAY

I sat on the porch swing
And watched the thunderstorm
Wash my troubles away
Then you walked in the backdoor
Without knocking
Held my shoelace and stocking
From your pocket
And belt loop
"So when are you going to get off your ass and stay awhile?"
I turned to you, eyebrow raised
Then looked away

He said he'd send me letters
As I watched my mailbox collect dust
You were here once with your folly
And swaggering step and sullen eyes
I cried when you left me
Coughed at your return
Maybe when the sun rises
ANd the water lilies wither
I'll consider your excuses
Then eat them for dinner

"Nice to see you"
I'd lie
And scoot over
Hoping you'd leave more than anything
