AND I SAT ON THE COUCH ALONE

The stage lights will hold you
Like a photograph
On the chalked up lines/ I came a long way here from
a few weeks back/ and I wish I could just/
sit here in the wings/ and challange a wall mouse
to a game of go fish/ drink wine with my cheese/
so much fury within the fight of banker's wrath
I saw a silohette and I begged her I am tired
like the long way down I'll take saplings and
wake pools She turns "I wish someone would
lodge this revolving door/ scan the transcripts"
I'll sit in the wings and make faces at my
history book/ dream about naps but never
to dare/ the silence, my awe giving silence/
where I ramble so long walk the dirt
roads beneathe your cuticles heartspun with
kerosene lamps/ Picnic tables in the
backyard in autum/ we use to pile leaves
by the window/ My knees and eyes grown
scabbed/ this illision of maybe when
the town brick fall/ I see the court house
and the poppies burn to ashes like the
sidewalk I tread now "Would you be so
kind to show me the door" I carried
grandfather clocks to the foyer and steeple/
crossover the haven of new vanity I left the
hollow place, I turned from it---the hollow
place/ Pewter basins and ice cubes/ breathing
in the water in my throat "laugh and
sneeze with delight uncommon"
