and general systems technical support. Scope was all corporate mainframe
systems, production, development, and stress (quality assurance
implementation). Authored 22 white papers on performance improvements to DB2
BMC Unload Plus applications and software utilization, IBM DB2 unload and
batch SQL utilities (DSNTIAUL, SPUFI, DSNTEP2, DSNTEP4), and DB2 V8 New
Function Mode Multiple Row FETCH and INSERT enhancements. Recommended new DB2
indexes on payment and invoice tables in international CICS applications and
SQL join techniques in java accounts receivable applications. These methods
fostered 100+ CPU hours per month improvement in operations. Served as
monitor and technical support analyst of peak season operations and bi-annual
implementation periods.

Contracted for z/OS DB2 performance tuning, monitoring and systems support
in nationwide mainframe networks. Used a prolific package of system and
subsystem monitoring software to observe DB2, DDF, batch, IMS, and CICS
systems, subsystems, applications and cross-system transactions. Responded
to system alerts, performance thresholds, and application owner requests for
support by providing development advisories and help desk support tickets.
Recommended the redefinition of Tivoli PR tables to eliminate freespace,
decrease CPU consumption, reduce response times, and to sustain database
organization, resulting in a 75% reduction in CPU utilization and runtime.
Developed an intranet reporting system of DB2 timeouts and deadlocks in MS
Access. Developed a series of top-down performance reports on web-based
IMS/DB2 monthly transaction statistics using SAS and IBM Tivoli Performance
Reporter (PR). Developed 32 monthly DB2 performance reports for corporate,
regional office, CICS, and test systems for intranet publication. Developed
numerous ad-hoc performance reports in SAS/SQL/PR, Visual Explain/PR, and MS
Excel Pivot Tables and Reports (graphs). Crosschecked and validated IBM PR,
Performance Monitor (PM), MainviewDB2, and SMF for DB2 parallelism elapsed and
CPU time collection. Developed intranet reports of DB2 Catalog Stored
Procedure ASUTIME CPU time limit parameters. System tested BMC Apptune
software. System tested new releases of DB2, Mainview, and Strobe
functionality. Developed before- and after- performance comparison reports of
DB2 V8 upgrade in production systems.

Contracted to develop an interface between a legacy mainframe
power outage maintenance dispatching system and Advantex Mobile Data
client/server software. Coded, tested and installed 5 CICS COBOL
sub-programs and expanded the mainframe VSAM database to hold
new data fields. Defined new files in IDCAMS. Used SAS programs
and FileAid to analyze VSAM files. Modified about a dozen CICS
programs and BMS maps to handle expanded functionality. Coded,
tested, and installed CICS / MQ-Series message queue handling.
Coded, tested, and installed 2 batch resequencing programs and
associated daily and weekly job streams for reset of MQ-Series
message queues. The system was successfully installed in February
and now serves metropolitan Houston (Houston Lighting and Power).
I was then assigned as production support analyst and resolved batch
and online glitches. I reviewed, re-defined and tuned VSAM databases
for storage efficiency and performance after full production
implementation.

Contracted to convert batch systems from UNISYS to IBM MVS DB2
for credit card issuance, collection agency and credit bureau
reporting, charge-off accounting, remote card reader account
controls, DB2 table conversions, and report dispatching systems.
Wrote programs for collection agency statistics, CICS operator
work queue statistics, credit bureau reports, collection account
and charge-off statistics. Standardized, quality reviewed, and
installed most of the developed system programs. Served as 24/7
technical support for 4 years after system implementation.
Converted several critical batch DB2 jobs to IMS/BMP using
checkpoint/restart and GSAM files. Programs were written using
COBOL II, DB2, and IMS/BMP. System testing was done using
Xpediter/TSO/CICS, QMF, and DB2I. Designed and developed
CASE-type tools for system testing using REXX, DB2REXX, and
ISPF Dialog Manager. Developed zipcode sorting and batching
algorhythm for statement postal savings of $180,000 per year.
Developed conversion programs to retro-fit third-party Fleet
credit card system into new in-house credit card system.
Modified existing credit card issuance and embossing programs
to handle special fleet conditions. Fleet system programming
and testing was done with a PC workstation using OS/2, AD-MVS,
SPF2, XDB, and Micro-Focus COBOL II and Micro-Focus CICS.
Converted credit card embossing and data formatting program
from assembler to COBOL II.

Purchase Order and Work Order processes using CICS, DB2, and SQL.
Wrote 6 VSAM to DB2 conversion programs, 2 buyers reports, and
6 DB2 table unload and merge jobs. Other duties included writing
enhancements for a DOS VSAM CICS Inventory management system
affecting 3 inventory analysis reports, 22 conversion and database
"fine tuning" programs, and modifications to 10 CICS transactions
and 15 batch programs. Developed an inventory item-level sales
projection algorythm and associated Suggested Purchase Order report
which resulted in increased revenue of $1 million dollars per
warehouse per month (24 warehouses).
