Thank you for visiting. I, DanaRose Crystal, am the BEST person to serve as Governing Board Member of the North Orange County Community College District --because I am a recent/current student, and have been actively involved with the inner workings of the district, in my capacity as a journalist and as a member of student government ( of both Fullerton and Cypress Colleges ). I have spent the past four years listening to the hopes, fears and complaints of many people working and studying within this district.
Unlike the current, incumbent trustees, I care about reality and the real needs of the people here, rather than in covering-up concerns, in order to maintain the status quo.

TIME FOR A CHANGE!

It's about time America --and the NOCCCD made NEEDED CHANGE. Electing me, DanaRose Crystal, is a step in the right direction.

Trustees of the North Orange County Community College District frequently are chosen, not by the voters, but by the sitting board or a committee!

How? Why?

Because an incumbent NOCCCD trustee who decides to retire waits until about a year or so after an election, then declares he/she cannot complete their term, and need to step down. Then a list of people who want the job are compiled, they are interviewed and one is selected by this committee. The "winner" is thus a hand-picked successor to their outgoing member --who can also endorse their favorite, thus their reign continues on and on and on.... CHANGE NEVER OCCURS! What, indeed, if every sitting U.S. President could do that? New people would never have a chance!
[NOTE: of the current seven NOCCCD trustees, FIVE were initially appointed to fill out an abandoned term --then elected and re-elected to subsequent terms! Witin this district, this method is prevalent and traditional--like in a monarchy? ]

In other words, the WILL and CHOICE of the general voting public is subverted! The general public end up voting for an incumbent, because incumbents almost always have an advantage.
This is not a monarchy. It is a democracy. Elective positions are not designed to be held for life, nor is an ideology meant to suffocate the opinions of all contenders.

My main opponent, Molly McClanahan is now 72 years old. If elected, WILL SHE COMPLETE HER TERM? She, herself, is the beneficiary of an incumbent quitting a term early. She completed the term vacated by her predecessor in 1995, and has only had to stand election once during her entire career as NOCCCD --because everyone was afraid to run against her! It is NOT because people thought she is infallible; it is NOT due to people being satisfied with the current board ( who managed to scare away most challengers ): it is due to a sense of hopelessness that the public would vote for anyone other than an incumbent --especially one who is a career politician, as Molly is. Her list of offices is long and impressive --however, I feel that she shows signs of being weary. DURING THIS ENTIRE CAMPAIGN, WHERE WAS SHE?

Molly McClananahan is the invisible incumbent. Oddly enough, though she's sent her loyal minions to speak for her occasionally, she's not appeared at major events to speak or court voters. I'd say that some of these organizations are showing their own tacit bias by their failure to have open forums. To date, there has only been one forum I was invited to --and that was the one sponsored by WIN-OC and College Dems at Cal State Fullerton, which, of course, she did not attend.

Two other areas were also up for election this year--area 1 and 3. While the candidate for area 3 was completely unopposed, the two candidates for area 1 were initially challenged by a recent student --former A.S. President/Student Trustee of Cypress College ( 1999/2000 ) Al Jabbar. However, he decided not to complete his paperwork, and to run for office in a future year.
Thus, I am almost alone in my challenge to the psuedo-monarchal status quo ( since fellow candidate Ross P. Romero seems to have dropped out, failing to have filled out websites for Smart Voter.org, the Orange County Register, and KCAL-9 ).
I feel it is sad. Actually, a recent or former student who is interested in the wlll-being of his/her campus is more relevant than

VOTERS, IT'S TIME TO TAKE BACK OUR DISTRICT. IT'S TIME WE MADE THE CHOICE OF WHO OUR BOARD MEMBERS ARE! IT'S TIME WE PUT A STOP TO THIS SUBVERSION OF THE RIGHTS OF VOTERS TO CHOOSE THOSE WHO MAKE THE MAJOR DECISIONS AFFECTING TEACHERS, STUDENTS, EMPLOYEES ---AND THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE!

REJECT THE CANDIDATE'S TRICKS, AND ELECT THE BEST! DANAROSE CRYSTAL FOR NOCCCD TRUSTEE!
