| 29-31 March 2003 Ange and I met up at Waterloo Station late Saturday morning to board the Eurostar - destination Brussels. Definately recommend the Eurostar as it is so much quicker than flying and of course catching the coach. Ange was given the look over at our arrival in Brussels as she was sporting a brand spanking new passport (after it being stolen the week before in Ireland). Anyway we got a cool stamp in our passports - first stamp since Turkey. Caught the Metro up to where our hotel was situated (and navigated four poms who were not confident in where they were going and had also purchased the same short-break package that we had). We were pleasently suprised to find that our hotel was really nice (nice one lastminute.com). Dropped our bags off (proudly I took only my dayback) and then heading back into the town centre which was only a hop-skip and a jump away. Went to the Grand Place and to also look at the piss boy and almost got peed on as the man was changing the piss boys clothes(I'll have a picture of piss boy up here one day). Quite funny. Had a look at the various shops, lace, tapestires and off course chocolate shops. We were very restrained and only brough two chocolates each - the only chocolates I ate all weekend actually - don't worry ... I made up for it with waffles! Went to a nice relaxed restaurant for dinner over a couple of beers (Belgim of course) and then I completed the evening with a waffle, strawberries and cream. Sunday was a late start, partly because we had lost an hour (time zone) and because it was also the start of daylight savings. We caught the train to Brugge ... and I hate to say it but all we did here was laze about in the sun at one of the Cafes (more frites, beer and waffles) then shopped our way back to the train station. Monday morning - our plan of attack was the shop our way down to the Grand Place (as we only been window shopping the previous two nights), have lunch and then walk to the train station to head back to London. Man we were having a ball ... and then ... whilst trying on shoes in Esprit ... some F***ER stole Angelas handbag whilst she was putting her shoes back on. Ange was off in a shot down the escalator and probably bet the theif down to the front door only to find that the stupid secuirty guard was on lunch. So we had an unexpected change of plans and went to visit the charming and ever so helpful people at the Police Station. After sitting in the lovely smoke filled room, we only had time to buy a few chocolates and I made my big purchase of the weekend, four fabulous tapestry cushions which will be on the way home soon Mum for you to enjoy as I have no where to put them at the mo. They are so lovely ... Pics to follow shortly when I finish my film. |
