1. Any Place I Hang My Hat Is Home

Free and easy
That's my style
Howdy-do me?
Watch me smile
But fare-the-well me
After a while
Cause I gotta roam
And any place I hang my hat is home
Sweetenin' water
Cherry wine
Thank you kindly
Suits me fine
Kansas City even Carolina
That's my honeycomb
'Cause any place I hang my hat is home
Birds roostin' in a tree
Pick up and go
And the goin' proves
That's how it oughta to be
Pick up too when the spirit moves me
Cross the river
'Round the bend
Howdy stranger?
So long friend!
There's a voice in the lonesome wind
Keeps a whispering roam
I'm going where a welcome mat is
No matter where that is
Cause any place I hang my hat is home

2. I Concentrate On You

Whenever skies look gray to me and trouble begins to brew
Whenever the winter winds become too strong
I concentrate on you

When fortune cries "Nay, nay" to me
And people declare "You're through"
Whenever the blues become my only songs
I concentrate on you

On your smile, so sweet, so tender
When at first my kiss you do decline
On the light in your eyes when you surrender
And once again our arms intertwine

And so when wise men say to me
That love's young dream never comes true
To prove that even the wise men can be wrong
I concentrate on you

I concentrate….
Concentrate..
On you

3. Makin' Whoopee

Another bride, another June
Another sunny honeymoon
Another season, another reason
For makin' whoopee

A lot of shoes, a lot of rice
The groom is nervous, he answers twice
Its really killin'
That he's so willin' to make whoopee

Now picture a little love nest
Down where the roses cling
Picture the same sweet love nest
Think what a year can bring, yes

He's washin dishes and baby clothes
He's so ambitious he even sews
But don't forget folks,
Thats what you get folks, for makin' whoopee

Another year, maybe less
What's this I hear? Well, can't you guess?
She feels neglected, and he's suspected
Of makin' whoopee

Yeah, she sits alone,
Most every night
He doesn't phone, he doesn't write
He says he's busy,
But she says, "Is he?"
He's makin' whoopee

Now he doesn't make much money
Only five thousand per
Some judge who thinks he's funny
Says, "You'll pay six to her."

He says, "Now judge, suppose I fail?"
Judge say, "Budge. Right into jail.
You'd better keep her. I think it's cheaper
Than makin' whoopee."

Yes, yeah, you better keep her
Daddy, I think it's cheaper
Then makin' whoopee

4. Where Do You Start?

Where do you start
How do you separate the present from the past
How do you deal with all the thing you thought would last
That didn't last
With bits of memories scattered here and there
I look around and don't know where to start

Which books are yours
Which tapes & dreams belong to you & which are mine
Our lives are tangled like the branches of a vine
That intertwine
So many habits that we'll have to break
And yesterdays we'll have to take apart

One day there'll be a song or something in the air again
To catch me by surprise & you'll be there again
a moment in
what might have been

Where do you start
Do you allow yourself a little time to cry
Or do you close your eyes & kiss it all goodbye
I guess you try
And though I don't know where & don't know when
I'll find myself in love again
I promise there will always be
A little place no one will see
A tiny part within my heart
That stays in love
With you

5. On The Sunny Side Of The Street

Get your coat and your hat, leave your worries on the doorstep
Just direct your feet to the sunny, sunny side of the street
Can't you hear that pitter pat of the happy tune that’s your step
Life could be so sweet on the sunny sunny side of the street

I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade
I'm not afraid 'cause my worries are over and the rover’s crossed over

If I never had a cent I'll be as rich as Rockfeller
With the gold dust at my feet on the sunny, sunny side of the street

Grab your hat, your coat, your vest and cane
Leave your worries on the doorstep, go bye-bye
Just direct your feet to the side of the street that’s sunny

Can't you hear that pitter pat, ratta-tat of the happy tune that’s your step
Life can be so sweet on the side of the street that’s sunny
I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade
I'm not afraid 'cause my worries are over and the rover’s crossed over

If my number never comes out, we’ll still be rich as Rockfeller
And the
Gold dust 'round at our feet
On the side of the street that’s sunny

I used to walk in the shade with my blues on parade
I'm not afraid 'cause my worries are over and the rover’s crossed over

If my number never comes out, we’ll still be rich as Rockfeller
And the
With that gold dust 'round my feet
On the side of the street that’s sunny

On the side of the street that’s sunny

6. You Are Too Beautiful

Like all fools, I belived what I want to belive.
My foolish heart conceived what floolish heart conceive.
I thought I found a miracle I thought that you'd adore me
but it was not a miracle, it was merely a mirage before me.

You are too beautiful my dear, to be true
and I am a fool for beauty
fooled by a feeling that because I had found you
I could have bound you to me.

You are too beautiful for one man alone
one lucky fool to be with
when there are other men with eyes of their own
to see with.

Love does not stand sharing
not if one cares
have you been comparing
my every kiss with theirs?

If on the other hand I'm faithful to you
it's not through a sense of duty
you are too beautiful
and I am a fool for beauty.

Have you been comparing
my every kiss with theirs?

If on the other hand I'm faithful to you
it's not through a sense of duty
you are too beautiful
and I am a fool for beauty.

you are too beautiful
and I am a fool for beauty.

7. My Attorney, Bernie

I'm impressed, with my attorney Bernie
I'm impressed, with his influential friends
He's got very big connections
and I follow his directions
Bernie knows his way around
and so I always do what Bernie recommends.

I am blessed, with my attorney Bernie
I'm impressed, with the way he runs the store
He's got Yankee season boxes
and an office full of foxes
It's amazing all the different things
your average guy might need a lawyer for.

chorus:
Bernie tells me what to do
Bernie always lays it on the line
Bernie says we sue, we sue
Bernie says we sign.. we sign

I'm in touch, with my attorney Bernie
In a clutch, he can speed right to the scene
and if I'm locked up in the jail
with just one phone call for my bail
he said to call his club collect
or deal directly with his answering machine

When I dine, with my attorney Bernie
He buys wine, from the rare imported rack
That's cause Bernie is a purist
not your polyester tourist
Bernie waves the glass around awhile
then takes a sip and always sends it back

chorus:
Bernie tells me what to do
Bernie always lays it on the line
Bernie says we sue, we sue
Bernie says we sign.. we sign

I admire, my attorney Bernie
I admire, any guy who knows his stuff
Sure we blew a couple ventures
with those counterfeit debentures
But you win a few, you lose a few
and like Bernie says you keep on hanging tough

Thanks to you, my attorney Bernie
Thanks to you, I'm considered well to do
Sure I made out like a bandit
Just exactly like you planned it
But as Murray my accountant
told me yesterday, I owe it all to you.

chorus:
Bernie tells me what to do
Bernie always lays it on the line
Bernie says we sue, we sue
Bernie says we sign.. we sign
On the dotted line!
On the dotted line!

8. The Sun Went Out

9. Loving You

I will spend my whole life through,
Loving you, loving you.
Winter, summer, springtime, too,
Loving you, loving you.
Makes no diff'rence where I go or what I do.
You know that I'll always be loving you.
If I'm seen with someone new,
Don't be blue, don't be blue.
I'll be faithful I'll be true;
Always true, true to you.
There is only one for me,
And you know who.
You know that I'll always be,
Loving you.

There is only one for me,
And you know who.
You know that I'll always be,
Loving you.
Loving you.

10. Marie

You looked like a princess the night we met
With your hair piled up high
I will never forget
I'm drunk right now baby
But I've got to be
Or I never could tell you
What you meant to me

I loved you the first time I saw you
And I always will love you Marie

You're the song that the trees sing when the wind blows
You're a flower you're a river you're a rainbow
Sometimes I'm crazy
But I guess you know
And I'm weak and I'm lazy
And I miss you so
And I don't listen to a word you say
When you're in trouble I just turn away

But I loved you the first time I saw you
And I always will love you Marie
Yes, I loved you the first time I saw you
And I always will love you Marie

11. Stress

I'm Addicted to stress
that’s the way that i get things done
if I'm not under pressure then i sleep too long
i hang around like a bum
i think I'm going nowhere and that makes me nervous

everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
Everybody's thinking bout me
(its the little things that get you
its the little things that get you
when you weren't paying attention
its the little things that get you
its the little things that get you
when you weren't paying attention)

trying to cut down on my caffeine consumption
so when i get up i just have one cup of coffee
and i like to have another cup of coffee with my breakfast
and on the way to work i like to get a cup of coffee
like the kind of cup of coffee you get with a donut
‘cept i never get the donut i just get the cup of coffee
and when i get to work i like to have a cup of coffee
cause i like to have a coffee when I'm talking on the phone
but it usually gets cold so I have to have another cup of coffee
then its lunch and i have an espresso
(maniacal laugh)
and when i get back its not morning anymore so i have
a diet cola and another diet cola
and by then I'm feeling fine I'm feeling pretty sharp
I’m feeling pretty wired and I'm getting things done
but right about 2 i get this little tiny migraine
stuck behind my eyes and it moves to the back of my neck
then it moves to the bottom of my spine
but it doesn't get there until 5 or 6 o clock
which is the end of the day so I'm fine so I'm fine so I'm fine
except when i have to work late when i have to work late
which i usually do

I'm Addicted to stress
that’s the way that i get things done
if I'm not under pressure then i sleep too long
i hang around like a bum
i think I'm going nowhere and that makes me nervous

everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
Everybody's thinking bout me
(its the little things that get you
its the little things that get you
when you weren't paying attention
its the little things that get you
its the little things that get you
when you weren't paying attention)

i love to work i love to run i love to play it real hard
i love to steal little things from the grocery store
like a piece of bubble gum or sometimes i just stick
my thumb in a peach and just leave it there
i love to work i love to run i love to water-ski snowboard
jet ski skydive parasail hanglide rollerblade mountainbike
bungee jump well i mean i love to do these things if i ever had the time
i love to work i love to work i love to work after work
i love to spend a little time with this woman that I'm seeing
‘cept we never get the time to spend together
so we call each other up and we talk about work
but i think id really love is to get up by myself on a tiny little island
in the middle of the ocean with just me a book and a cellular phone
and a personal computer in case something came up
and i'd eat and i'd drink and i'd run and i'd sleep
and wouldn’t do nothing except swim all day
except my beeper doesn’t work under water
and where are the sharks where are the sharks
and there's this kind of anemone that sticks in your foot
and the poison goes up to your brain and you die
and sand fleas sand fleas yeow!
actually i think would be really relaxing
just me by myself in the middle of the ocean
and thats what id really like to do more than anything else

except, you know, i'd probably hate it

I'm Addicted to stress
that’s the way that i get things done
if I'm not under pressure then i sleep too long
i hang around like a bum
i think I'm going nowhere and that makes me nervous

everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
Everybody's thinking bout me

everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
Everybody's thinking bout me

everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
i'm Addicted to stress that’s the way that i get
everybody's out to get me but i feel all right
Everybody's thinking bout me

12. She's No Lady

She hates my mama
She hates my daddy too
She loves to tell me
She hates the things I do
She loves to lie beside me
Almost every night
She's no lady she's my wife

The preacher asked her
And she said I do
The preacher asked me
And she said yes he does too
And the preacher said
I pronounce you 99 to life
Son she's no lady she's your wife

And I can't remember
How I met her
Seems like she's always just been hanging here off my right arm
And I can't remember
How I ever
Felt that I just couldn't live without a woman's charm

And even though
She loves the smell of French perfume
And even though
She walks around in high-heel shoes
All I know
Is I'm the one who pays her price
Man she's no lady she's my wife

She's no lady she's my wife

Man she's no lady she's my wife

And I can't remember
How I met her
Seems like she's always just been hanging here off my right arm
And I can't remember
How I ever
Felt that I just couldn't live without a woman's charm

Now even though
She loves the smell of French perfume
Even though
She walks around in high-heel shoes
All I know
Is I'm the one who pays her price
Man she's no lady she's my wife

She's no lady she's my. . . wife

13. Here's That Rainy Day

I should have saved
Those leftover dreams
Funny
But here's that rainy day
Here's that rainy day
They told me about
And I laughed at the thought
That it might turn out this way
Where is that worn out wish
That I threw aside
After it brought my love so near
Funny how love becomes
A cold rainy day
Funny
That rainy day is here
It's funny
How love becomes
A cold rainy day
Funny
That rainy day is here

14. Invitation To The Blues

Well she's up against the register with an apron and a spatula,
Yesterday's deliveries, tickets for the bachelors
She's a moving violation from her conk down to her shoes,
Well, it's just an invitation to the blues

And you feel just like Cagney, she looks like Rita Hayworth
At the counter of the Schwab's drugstore
You wonder if she might be single, she's a loner and likes to mingle
Got to be patient, try and pick up a clue

She said "How you gonna like 'em, over medium or scrambled?",
You say "Anyway's the only way", be careful not to gamble
On a guy with a suitcase and a ticket getting out of here
It's a tired bus station and an old pair of shoes
This ain't nothing but an invitation to the blues

But you can't take your eyes off her, get another cup of java,
It's just the way she pours it for you, joking with the customers
Mercy mercy, Mr. Percy, there ain't nothing back in Jersey
But a broken-down jalopy of a man I left behind
And the dream that I was chasing, and a battle with booze
And an open invitation to the blues

But she used to have a sugar daddy and a candy-apple Caddy,
And a bank account and everything, accustomed to the finer things
He probably left her for a socialite, and he didn't 'cept at night,
And then he's drunk and never even told her that her cared
So they took the registration, and the car-keys and her shoes
And left her with an invitation to the blues

'Cause there's a Continental Trailways leaving local bus tonight, good evening
You can have my seat, I'm sticking round here for a while
Get me a room at the Squire, the filling station's hiring,
And I can eat here every night, what the hell have I got to lose?
Got a crazy sensation, go or stay? now I gotta choose,
And I'll accept your invitation to the blues

15. September Of My Years

One day you turn around, and it's summer
Next day you turn around, and it's fall
And suddenly, all the springs and winters of a lifetime
Whatever happened to them all

As a man, who has always had the wandering ways
Now I'm looking back on yesterdays
'Til a long forgotten love appears

And I find, I'm sighing softly as I near
September, the warm September of my years

As a man, who has never paused at wishing wells
Now I'm watching children's carousels
And their laughter's music to my ears

And I find, I'm smiling gently as I near
September, the warm September of my years
- The golden warm September of my years
