Montevideo Middle School
Since November 2005, I have been working at Montevideo Middle School in Montevideo, Minnesota.  I have two positions here.  The first is teaching eighth grade geography two periods a day.  This has given me the opportunity to gain more classroom experience.  Eventhough all unit plans have been designed already, I am still responsible for daily lesson plans.  I think this is the best position for me as a first year teacher because I still have support from the other geography teacher.  I am greatful for this position because I have been faced with new challenges as a teacher, yet it has only reinforced my determination to become a great social studies teacher.  The second position is working as a Teacher's Assistant with special needs students.  This has to be the best learning experience that I have ever had.  It has taught me so much about who I am and what I am capable of doing.  I had no experience working with special needs kids before and it did take me a few weeks to get use to the atmosphere in the room.  I can now say that it truly takes some great people to work with these students, but a person gains so much from doing it.  These kids were amazing!  I had a great experience here and I hope I can find another position that I enjoy as much!
Student Teaching Experience
In the fall of 2004, I began my student teaching experience in the St. Peter school district.  I taught in an eighth grade US History class as well as an eleventh grade US History class.  I began with only teaching one block of each class, but toward mid-quarter I took on another eighth grade class.  I enjoyed my time at St. Peter and had two great supervising teachers to support and guide me.  I found teaching a challenging and rewarding experience.  I know that I would like to continue to work in this career field.
