Essays
The Essay Writing class that I took when I was twenty first showed me that essays can be more than three point exercises in proving clarity of thought to teachers, and even more than reasoned arguments.  Essays can tell stories, too.  They can talk about being human.
When I think of what I want to do as a writer, I always come back to the Rich Mullins line: "Another tune forms in my head / More harmonies, more empty words. / Oh, I could play these songs 'till I was dead / And never approach the sound that I once heard."  I'm coming closer and closer to hearing the sound that I once heard--hearing it and longing to hear it all at the same time, to borrow a concept from one of my favorite Star Trek books. These are a collection of some of the essays that I've used to try to capture the things I've learned.
