MY TRIBUTE to the GOODIE MOB.
GOODIE MOB is an acronym for "The good die mostly over Bull".  I discovered this legend of a group (T-Mo, Big Gipp, Khujo, and Cee-Lo) in 1998 shortly after the release of their sophomore CD "Still Standing", and I was immediately hooked!  So hooked in fact, that I taped various performances(Apollo, Soul Train) and interviews while scouring the internet/stores to try to get my hands on every video they've put out.  Many of those tapes got a bit crinkled from constant rewinding to see a funny antic by Gipp, or something adorable from T-Mo.  I couldn't get enuff of the Goodie MoB and literally had their music on rotation in my player for years.
THE APPEAL OF THE GOODIE MOB
What draws me to the Goodie Mob is not only their social consciousness and unique artistry --which I'll get to in a minute--but for me, it is the depth of their charecter, wisdom, and honesty that eminates from every lyric; from every man.  To put it bluntly, Goodie is REAL and at the risk of sounding corny, I've always felt like I know them.  During tougher times back when my confidence was waning, I'd tune into their perspective backed up by wicked and totally origional tracks, and my day would brighten.  In an essence : these "strangers" became friends through their music.
Example :  I can remember watching The Source Awards where Goodie had been nominated, and they showed a lil' clip of the vid for "Black Ice" (the only video I never could find), and in the clip there was a front porch of a house.  I thought to myself
That's why I love Goodie so much --because they have such an approachable nature about them.  I could just picture myself on that very porch chillin' with a drink and conversating with Goodie about any subject, whether serious or comical.
Even recently (which is what led me to make this tribute) I had a dream out of the blue where I met them at our local pool (which doesn't even exist anymore), and we were just acting silly, and swimmin', and having a good ol' time.  Dreams can be somethin' else.    :o)
I will confess that back in '99, 2000, I was so Goodie crazed that I waited in the rain with no umbrella (and I'm quite a girlie-girl) to see them perform in Columbus, Ohio.  When the rain created an electrical hazard to the group, all I could think was,
Get to safety!!  I was worried sick.   :o)
I named my yellow and white fur-baby-kitty "Gippie", and I also introduced the music of this amazing foursome (now down to three since Cee-Lo's no longer on board) to friends who weren't familiar with them.  They immediately recognized the great talent and became instant fans like myself.  I've always felt that The Goodie Mob was under-appreciated
