My Tribute to Bob Dylan
My dad told me that when Bob Dylan burst onto the scene, he was unlike any other artist because they'd release an album and wait a couple of years before putting another out, but with Bob Dylan it was one right after another like-- bam, bam, bam.  He had so much to say about the times, and about the human spirit and condition. The man is a poet and will go down in history as a musical and lyrical legend.  Here are some of my favorite lyrics by this poetic great.
All your seasick sailors, they're all rowing home
Your empty handed army is all going home
Your lover who just walked out the door
has taken all his blankets from the floor
The carpet too is moving under you
and it's all over now baby blue

BLOOD ON THE TRACKS:
an album I recommend, if nothing else, for IDIOT WIND
THE ESSENTIAL BOB DYLAN: 2 CD's of some of his best songs.
You used to ride on a chrome horse with your diplomat
who carried on his shoulder a siamese cat
Ain't it hard when you discovered that
he really wasn't where it's at
after he took from you everything he could steal
--from LIKE A ROLLING STONE

You say you're lookin' for someone
who'll promise never to part
Someone to close his eyes for you
Someone to close his heart
Someone who will die for you and more
but it ain't me babe--from IT AIN'T ME BABE
(could that song have been written FOR ME??
... So THAT'S why I'm perpetually single!  :o)
My sense of humanity has gone down the drain
Behind every beautiful thing, there's been some kinda pain
She wrote me a letter, and she wrote it so kind
She put down in writin' what was in her mind
I just don't see why I should even care
It's not dark yet
but it's gettinn' there
--from NOT DARK YET (BEAUTIFUL song)

People are crazy and times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range
I used to care but things have changed
--from THINGS HAVE CHANGED
He looks so truthful, is this how he feels?
Tryin to build a moon and expose it
with his business like anger and his bloodhounds that kneel
If he needs a third eye, he just grows it
He just needs ya ta talk
or ta hand him his chalk
or pick it up! after he throws it
Hey! Crawl out your window
Come on! Don't say it'll ruin you
How could you say he'll haunt you
You can go back to him anytime you want to
--from CRAWL OUT YOUR WINDOW written by Dylan, performed by Transvision Vamp (a song about spousal abuse)

Come writiers and critics who prophosize with your pen
and keep your eyes wide, the chance won't come again
and don't speak too soon for the wheel's still in spin
and there's no telling who that it's naming
'cause the loser now will be later the win
for the times they are a-changin' --from THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN'
