THE WEISHUHN FAMILY CREST

According to the information in "THE International Crest Register, Volume XII
by Johann Siebmacher", the following registration is under the Weishuhn name.

Old German citizenry from the 15th century relative to the Province of Bayern
(Bavaria), have with courage and valor participated in the cursades in the
12th and 13th century.

In the year of 1765, Karl August Weishuhn was a great land owner and farmer.
For his great services for the benifit of the nation, he was honored by the
Royal Authorities with a family crest and a letter of heraldry on parchment.
During the Seven Years War (Silesia War 1756-1763) Karl August Weishuhn made
available great parts of his land holdings to the hungry and starving people
without charge, and for these merits, he was honored and decorated by the
Reigning Soverign. Descendants of this family migrated to other German
Provinces and others to Denmark, Holland, and America.

The Weishuhn crest is described as follows;

A white shield with a black shaded area on the right, contains a red
steerhead with golden embellishments as symbols of purity of character,
impregnable, noble virtues and love of fartherland. A free flowing
embellishment of dark blue, green and silver surrounds the helmet and shield
harmoniously. A jousting helmet in the color of silver and with a black
visor, a golden chain, black shoulder band and red sleeve decoration. A
banner above the helmet in the colors of red and white and horns in changing
colors of sivler and blue as a symbol of firm devotion to the fatherland and
readiness to help.

Origin of the Weishuhn Family.

In the book,"Etymologisches Worterbuch Der Deutchen Familie nanen" it is
stated that the name WEISHUHN was preceeded by Withoen and there was a record
of a Heinriech WIthoen of Hamburg, Prussia in 1275.

The book also states that the ealiest record of the Weishuhn name was a
Johann Weishuhn, school teacher and later a pastor in Echell, Echzell,
(HESSE) Germany in 1542.

Note; Weishuhn translates to white hen.

DEDICATION

I want to especially thank my wife Helen for giving up much of her time while
we went on Genealogy vactions for the past several years, and for listening
to me ask the same questions and tell the same stories over and over again.

I also want to thank my aunt Alice Weishuhn Schmitzer, my cousins Dorothy
Weishuhn Schlaud, Alma Roe, and all of those who have sent me material for
this book.

FORWARD

This book is a result of my reseach of the descendants of John Henry
Weishuhn, a British Loyalist during the AMerican Revolutionary War,
1776-1783. The reason that I have only included descendants of John Henry
Wieshuhn is because I have discoverd two other groups with the Weishuhn name
in North America. and I have not been able to prove a relationship to either
of these groups as yet. I hope to prove that we are all related, and then
write another book on all of the Weishuhn's of North America.

The first group lives in Canada with members living in several provinces, but
mostly in Toronto, Ontario, and Vancouver, British Columbia. This group are
descendants of Johann and Fredrica Weishuhn who came to Canada from Germany
about 1850 and settled near Mildmay, Ontario. I Have visted with several of
these family and am in the process of gathering data from them.

The next group are descendants of three brothers who came from Westphalia,
Germany in 1847 and settled around Columbus, Texas. Their names were Edward,
Ernst, and Julius Weishuhn. My wife Helen and I went to visit this group at a
family reunion in 1978, and had a wonderful time. Again I have not been able
to prove that we are related, but I feel sre that we are.

In conclusion, I have spent several years now searching and traveling in the
U.S., Canada, and England looking at public records for information about my
family. I have also made countless telephone calls seeking information, and I
believe that if you meet a Weishuhn, he will be a member of one of the three
groups mentioned.

I have also done some research in Germany and found only one name so far. She
is Lucia Weishuhn living in Berlin and I have been in contact with her.

The task of compiling a family history is never completed. At some piont one
must draw a line and publish. With full reluctance and recognition that this
point has been reached I decided to publish this book so that copies will be
available at the Weishuhn family Reunion in Au Gres, Michigan on August 2,
1981.

Even though this book is completed, I will continue on with my research
because Daniel Webster once said,

"He who Careth not whence he come. careth little wither he goeth"

INTRODUCTION

This book is arranged in three parts. Part one is about my great, great,
great grandfather, John Henry Weishuhn and his immediate family and covers a
time period from the beginning of the Revolutionary War in 1776 and ends with
the death of my great, great, grandfather, James Alexander Weishuhn in 1876
in Ontario, Canada.

Part two starts with Henry W. Weishuhn, only known son of James Alexander
Weishuhn. It includes information about his family and all known ancestors to
date. This part of the book is divided into 13 chapters. Each chapter covers
a child of Henry and his wife Mariah Markle. The census records indicate that
there was a 14 child but no information about the name, birthdate, etc. has
been found, so the child must have died as an infant.

Part three is a bibliography of the reference sources used in obtaining
information for this book. When a number is seen in parenthesis in the text,
the number can be found in the bibliography and the reference listed. (not
included)

In the back of this book are several blank pages, and these may be used to
write in additions or changes that may be discovered after this book is
published.

In addition a supplememtal address list of Weishuhn and related names is
available on request.

Copies of this book and supplement address list can be obtained at the
writers cost by calling or writting.

DEAR NEEDS:

The child of your parent's brother or sister is your first cousin. However,
your first cousin's child is not your second cousin, but your first cousin
once removed. The child of your first cousin once removed is your first
cousin twice removed, and his child is your first cousin three times removed.

Your second cousin is your grandparent's brother's (or sister's) grandchild.
That second cousin's child is your second cousin once removed, his child your
second cousin twice removed, and so on.

And your third cousin? It's your great-grand-parent's brother's (or sister's)
great-grandchild. The third cousin's child is your third cousin once removed.
his child is your third cousin twice removed.

The grandchild of your brother or sister is your grandnephew or grandniece.

The sister or brother of your granparents is your great-aunt or great-uncle.

The sister or brother of your great-grandparent is your great-grand-aunt or
great-grand-uncle.

Whew! Isn't this grand? Or is it great?
