A BOOK BY ITS COVER
[Appearance]
To the
mortal eye, Kaile Hunter is a dark-haired,
suntanned young man. He usually dresses casually and
comfortably--t-shirts and jeans are optimal, though shorts are
just as acceptable during the summer months, and particularly
cold weather might drive him to sweaters. Witty, attractive and
easy with the boyish grins, his charm wins him many friends.
To those who can see into dreams, however, Kaile is quite different. His hair lightens to a iridescent blue-white, reminiscent of the color of sea foam under the sun. His ears are delicately pointed; his cheekbones high and slanting. The brilliant eyes, however, colored like the lagoon--shifting hues, gray, blue, green, a splash of gold--are the crowning jewel on a visage of eldritch, elfin beauty.
Usually, Kestrel wears ornately stitched knee-high boots. Loose-flowing trousers are tucked into them, cinched at the waist with a wide leather belt, over which a textured wool-spun tunic, open at the throat, drapes. His garb might be often mistaken for Eshu, but the face gives his heritage away. Once in a blue moon, he might be seen wearing something more befitting the traditional look of a noble, trading the loose trousers for close-fitting deerskin breeches of rich, dark burgundy, and the coarse woolen tunics for fine silken shirts beneath intricately embroidered vests, burgundy and gold thread. Over the ensemble he wears heavy navy-blue greatcoat, and hanging at his left side is a cutlass in its richly decorated scabbard. No matter what he wears, he always keeps his guns on him: one holstered on his left hip, the other concealed against his left side, beneath his shirt.
[Equipment and Possessions]
Antique chimerical revolvers: No matter what else he wears, the guns Mjollnir and Stormvrachtrajner are always carried on or near his person, even when he sleeps. Blued steel and sandalwood, the beauty and craftsmanship of the revolvers is unparalleled, their balance impeccable. Interestingly enough, each gun carries not the six bullets of the conventional mortal revolver--but seven. Mjollnir, so named after Thor's hammer, sometimes seems to glow golden, whereas Stormvrachtrajner ("Stormbringer") is darker, almost as though it inhales light. Only two have ever laid hands on the revolvers--their creator, and Kestrel himself. Heavy with the weight of a thousand million dreams and are always warm to the touch, it's almost as though they were alive. Perhaps they are...
Though few would notice, Kestrel typically wears Mjollnir at his hip when Seelie, and Stormvrachtrajner under his shirt. When his courts switch, so too do the guns' positions.
Chimerical
cutlass: The cutlass was made by the same Arcadian
craftsman who had created the revolvers. Just as beautiful and
almost as beloved, it boasts a hilt inlaid with mother-of-pearl
and deliberately muted gold. The weapon is only worn when Kestrel
is what he considers his dress attire and even then usually
resides in a matching scabbard--but the few who've seen it
unsheathed attest to the blade's unfailing quality...and its
wicked edge.
Scimitar: For a while Kestrel owned a non-chimerical pistol, which he used in his days among the pirates in the Caribbeans. He won the scimitar from another pirate (who obviously had visions of himself as the swashbuckling marauder of old, too) in a card game and used it ever since in his raids, abandoning the pistol to the other pirate. While no work of art, it is functional, and so far the blade has not snapped. Having left the pirates and struck out on his own, however, Kestrel no longer uses the scimitar much.
Machete: This is the only non-chimerical weapon he might be seen carrying around very occasionally. While some use similar blades as melee weapons, Kestrel sees it as essentially a large knife with a serrated edge towards the base of the blade, most useful for cutting ropes and gutting fish.
Small yacht: Won in a rather high-stakes card game just a few months ago, his acquisition of this yacht marks the end of his days with the mortal pirates. Since then he's spent two months touching up the yacht, inside and out, giving it a new coat of paint, cleaning its furnishings and its engines. His parents named it the "Beautiful Dreamer," and he has not changed it yet, preferring to wait until he can remember the name of his ship in Arcadia. He lives in his yacht, though he does spend time in the freeholds.
Various clothing: Chimerical attire is usually a little old-fashioned. Aside from a few 'formal' outfits, it's mostly loose-fitting, comfortable. Swashbuckler chic. The tangible wardrobe is casual, mostly jeans and t-shirts. Maybe a few semiformals, but nothing that would fit in at a black-tie event.
