Checkers
A North Charleston pusher and pimp with four or
five prostitutes under his thumb at any one time, Checkers is Griffin's eye on
the seedy underbelly of the city. While he and his whores and addicts
usually manage to dig up the goods sooner or later on anything relatively big in
North Charleston, their combined clout doesn't amount to much. Spreading a
rumor or three is just about the limit of their reach.

Once one of Checkers' hookers, Tab is freshly
weaned from her heroin habit and just as freshly inducted into another, darker
addiction: vampiric vitae. It's not too clear what Griffin sees in the
too-thin girl, but it's probably some combination of cruel whimsy and the
promise of a street contact in her pimp that drove him to ghoul her.
