Although the Health Department now prohibits smoking in health care facilites, nursing homes, resteraunts, and other public places only one state, California, meets the goal set by federal health officials twenty years ago of eliminating exposure to ETS by banning indoor smoking or limiting it to seperately ventilated areas (SS Hazy, 989). And we as a society have alot of work to be done!!!
THE PLAN
Legislation or regulations need to be enacted and enforced by local, state, and federal governments to eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke. Here are my specific proposal: Smoking should be banned in all work sites and all places of public assembly, especially where children are present. Smoking should be banned in outdoor areas where people assemble, such as service lines, seating areas of sports stadiums and areas, etc. Smoking should also be banned in schools and academic instutuions except for in living or dorm areas. Any cigarette advertising in magazines or on billboards should be pulled. And last but certainly not least, smoking should be banned on all forms of public transportation, including buses, trains, commuter services and flights coming into or leaving the United States. There also needs to be "butt hutts" or unheated huts with roofs, much like those at bus station stops need to be place where they do not interfer with nonsmokers.

This plan is feasible and will solve the rude and annoying problem of secondhand smoke. We already have law enforcers doing their finest to protect the citizens of this wonderful society, them enforcing a few more regulations should not put a strain on our resources. It is more of a societal problem so we each must be a little more sympathetic to one another.
