| The Reemo Story | ||||
| Reemo started as a concept. Two individuals with an urge to vent their emotions in the form of rock n roll music.It was Damien Mc Guinn on drums and Richard Burke playing guitar. They did not know how they would be able to afford drums, find a bassist and a singer, nor did they care they were just in it for the moment........ So a couple of weeks in I heard from my brother that the extremely tall first year with the blonde hair could play bass. Richard and Damien decided to converse with this individual. His name was Liam Martin he was half South African and half English. He was extremely well spoken and Rich and Damo invited him down to Richards residence for a JAMMIN session. We were amazed by Liams amazing playing as his lithe fingers slapped and plucked the strings he was indeed a fine bassist and he was officially IN. As the possibility of Damien being able to afford a drumkit became less and less likely, Liam decided to look elsewhere. He found a drummer by the name of Martin Sheanon. Martin was an incredibly talented drummer and amazed Liam with his Joey Jordison like shtickbaitin. Liam asked Richard to come up and jam with them and he was equally amazed. All parties were adamant to get rid of Damien . Richard phoned to break the news but some quick thinking on Damos part saved his ass and he said "I'll sing! I'll sing!" and so his role was also cemented. Liam decided it was necessary to have a second guitarist so he contacted Claire Quinn. She said that she would definitely be interested in joining the band. So an arrangement was made for the first ever practice session. The nerves were eating away at everyone before the practice. "Will they think I'm good enough?" thought Damien. So at the practice session it was found that the only song everyone knew was Smells Like Teen Spirit. They made an attempt at it but Damien couldn't hit the high notes. Problem. However as the practices went along the band got tighter until Claire started missing practices because of work. Everyone believed that it was best if we let Claire go. A couple of weeks later Damien started to learn the guitar. As he got better he started to play while singing at practice. Finally the line-up of the band was a stable one. Now all they needed was a name. For a short while the band went under the monicker of Fudd. But there were some inner band disputes until Martin said at one practice " Fuck it, lets just call ourselves Reemo". Done and Done. Soon after, another Loughrea band, Pandemonium, asked Reemo to support them at a gig. Naturally they jumped at the chance and the gigin began. Liam decided that we needed a third guitarist and pretty much invited his friend Paul into the band without informing Damien or Martin. When Paul only showed up for one practice we kinda figured Liam had learned his lesson. It was in the Summer of 2002 when Reemo recorded their eponymous debut demo. It provoked favourable reactions from the people who listened to it but the band know their best is yet to come. A month or so after the recording of the demo as the possibilty of Damien becoming a better singer became less and less Liam started to look elsewhere. Martin suggested the singer/guitarist from his other band Re-Load. His name was Shane Downey. There were a couple of practices with Shane playing rhythm guitar but then Richard decided enough was enough and told Damien he was out of the band. This left him feeling betrayed and bitter. The nu-Reemo then played a gig in Mullagh in front of very young kids. The kids weren't into it and Liam and Martin were arguing a lot. Liam decided to turn everything up to the last and the sound went to shite altogether. The band promptly split up. A couple of months later Richard and Damien were in a bar drunk and decided it would be an amazing idea to start the band afresh. When they got in contact with Liam and Martin they agreed also. At their first gig after the reformation Richard and Damien were drunk and messed up a bit but everyone enjoyed the gig. Except Liam. So he promptly left throwing his bass at Rich on the way out for effect.. He told Damien he wasn't up for it anymore and held no grudges against anyone. The band was searching for the perfect bass player.............. After many months of inactivity in the Reemo camp and with no-one breaking down the proverbial Reemo door to become the Reemo bassist Damien sent Liam a text asking about a possible revival of the band for the summer. Liam agreed. |
