| I use two sorts of canvas: 1) the ready made gallery wrapped canvas or 2) the handstretched linen canvas, which has a couple of advantages (please always see auction�s description to learn which of both was used for the particular painting). Below you can see the two main steps of preparing a canvas for painting. The true linen cloth has to be cut to a proper size and then fixed with staples on the backside. This true linen cloth is one of the best and strongest materials for oil painting, traditionally used by the old masters in the past centuries. |
