| The Plan of Attack | ||||
| The plan of attack is pretty straightforward. 1. I MUST stop gambling. As much as I like to deny it, my poker hobby is an expensive hobby. On average, I would say I lose anywhere from $100 to $300 a month playing poker in Atlantic City. Sure there are good days, but the house always wins in the end. 2. Continue making payments to my personal loan. I make payments of $228 a month to a personal loan that is now interest free. I payed all of the interest up front ($1,281) when I originally asked for the loan. So all payments now are going completely to principal. This is huge. I like to think of it as a reverse 401K. Where a 401K lets you deposit money tax free, I am paying off credit card debt interest free. 3. Get the card at 18% transferred! I am partially successful with this one. The card that is at 18% had $6000 on it. I have transferred $3,000 of it to a lower rate card at 9.9%. This will save me some cash in interest... which will continue to go to the original card's payments through automatic deduction. 4. Stick to tight budget. Continuing to pay down my debt aggressively means that I have to be real careful about any discretionary spending. Especially being on my tight budget. |
