This was the first saga ever in Dragonball Z. Many people feel this is the most important saga in the series mainly because it set the tone for the rest of the sagas. I happen to be one of those people. It is five years after Goku fought Piccolo and his power has increased greatly since then. This saga starts with the arrival of Radditz in a Saiyan space pod. The first episode ever of Dragonball Z shows Radditz meeting up with a farmer in a field. The farmer has a power level of 5 (he had a rifle which increased his power) and shot Radditz. Radditz just stuck out a hand to catch the bullet and then reflected it back at the farmer, leaving him draped over the hood of his truck dead. Elsewhere there was a reunion at Kame House (Master Roshi�s house) between all of the Z Warriors. Radditz arrives outside the house and announces that he is the brother of Kakarotto (Goku). This is the first major twist in the plot of Dragonball Z when Radditz tells Goku for the first time that he is from the planet Vegeta and is a Saiyan. Goku doesn't believe Radditz at first so Master Roshi tells Goku about how his surrogate father, Son Gohan, who found a Saiyan space pod with Goku in it and raised Goku as his son. Radditz tells how Goku was sent to Earth as a baby to destroy all life. Master Roshi says that Goku was violent at first but fell down a ravine and hit his head. This made Goku forget all about his mission to destroy Earth and turned him in to the nature loving man he is. Now Radditz grabs a hold of Gohan (Goku�s son who he brought to Kame house to introduce to everyone) and Goku tries desperately to get his beloved son back without success. Radditz tells Goku that if he brings him 100 dead bodies that he can have his son back. Goku of course refuses and Radditz leaves with Gohan. Piccolo now shows up at the island and faces Goku. Goku and Piccolo are still bitter enemies from their past battles but they know their only chance to win is to team up against Radditz. Since Piccolo and Goku can both sense ki (power that one possesses), they find Radditz pretty easily since he is the most powerful being on Earth at the time. A battle starts between the three warriors and Piccolo and Goku are completely beaten down. An enraged Gohan sees his father being tortured by Radditz and breaks out of the space pod he was being held in. Gohan's power level shoots up to 1300 and he head butts Radditz right in the chest. This doesn't do much damage but weakens Radditz�s armor, making an open and vulnerable area for Piccolo and Goku to take advantage of. Gohan lost all of his power after the attack and Radditz knocked him out. This attack against his son made Goku angry enough to summon the strength to grab Radditz. Goku puts Radditz in a full nelson and will not let go. This gives Piccolo enough time to charge his Makankousappou, or Special Beam Cannon. The corkscrew-like attack bored its way through BOTH Radditz and Goku, killing them both. This marked the end of the first part of the Saiyan Saga but before Radditz died he said that there were two other Saiyans headed to Earth who will arrive in 1 year and are much more powerful than he is. This alerts the Z Warriors and they decide to train for the fight. Gohan is taken away to train with Piccolo because Piccolo sees Gohan's true fighting potential. The others train in their own way. Goku goes to heaven and begins his journey on Snake Way. On the way down Snake Way Goku got a ride and then fell out of the car down to Hell. He raced 2 ogres and beat them both. This allowed him to start his journey on Snake Way again, only at the beginning though. At the end of the incredibly long road Goku reached King Kai�s planet. This is where he trained and was taught his most effective attacks, the Kaio Ken and Genki Dama, or Spirit Bomb. These attacks and training increase Goku's power level greatly and will aid him quite a bit in his future battles. ************************************** The next and �series setting� part of the Saiyan Saga is the Vegeta Saga. It can best be described as a Sub-Saga because it is not separate from the Saiyan Saga. It has been an entire year since Radditz was killed and every one of the Z Warriors had become much, much stronger. Piccolo has trained Gohan by leaving him in the desert for 6 months for survival training and then training him the other 6 months. The two Saiyans, Vegeta and Nappa, come to Earth because they heard about the Dragonballs through Radditz's scouter. Now the real fighting begins with Nappa, who appears to be the stronger of the two. But with people like Krillin around, size is no indication of power. Anyway the fighting begins and Piccolo, Tien, Yamcha, and Choazu are all killed by Nappa in some way. Piccolo dies by sacrificing himself for Gohan, Tien and Choazu die by trying to kill Nappa and Yamcha dies when on of the little things (can�t remember their names) that came with Vegeta and Nappa explodes. The only ones left standing are Gohan and Krillin (thanks to some senzu beans). After some stalling of Nappa by them Goku finally arrives on the planet and takes out Nappa easily, but doesn't kill him. That task is left up to Vegeta who kills his lifelong servant, Nappa, without a second thought. Now the real fighting begins. The long awaited battle between Vegeta and Goku starts with a pretty equal match between the two. Even with his newly learned Kaio Ken attack, Goku is beaten up very badly by Vegeta. This is mainly because Vegeta transforms into his Oozaru (giant ape) form, making his power increase ten fold. Unlike young Goku and Gohan, Vegeta can control himself when he is in the Oozaru form. He states that he has trained in that form, which is why he even remembers the events that happen during the transformation (most Saiyans who transform can�t remember what happened in that form). Vegeta now beats Goku horribly, breaking his legs under his huge boots and crushing him in the palm of his hand. This goes on until Yajirobe, who can't take the screams of his friend Goku any longer cuts off Vegeta's tail with a move called the Iai Zari. (On another note, Yajirobe is not the coward that Funimation makes him out to be. They probably made him so afraid as comic relief. But too bad no one is laughing.) Goku is now totally spent from being crushed and ground into a bloody pulp by Oozaru Vegeta. So Gohan can't take seeing his father hurt so badly and takes Vegeta on himself. He is no match for Vegeta at all. While Gohan and Vegeta are still fighting, the half-dead Goku calls over the half-dead Krillin and tells him that he has been gathering energy for the Spirit Bomb all along. Goku cannot perform the attack by himself so he gives the energy to Krillin and instructs him how to form the energy into a ball. Krillin stands high on a mountain and waits for the right time to throw the Genki Dama. Krillin nearly throws it incorrectly until King Kai contacts Krillin telepathically and tells him the proper way to "feel it out, feel the right time." Krillin finally throws the Spirit Bomb and misses. Gohan is in the direct path of the Spirit Bomb and is incredibly frightened. Then Goku says that it won't hurt him unless he has evil in his heart, which he doesn't. Gohan then reflects it back and it strikes Vegeta, sending him into space and crashing back down to Earth. Surprisingly, it doesn't kill Vegeta but only brings him to near death. Vegeta now crawls on his stomach slowly back to his space pod to heal but Krillin meets up with him before he can make it there. Krillin intends to kill Vegeta with Yajirobe's sword but is stopped by the very kind-hearted (and sometimes too trusting) Goku. Vegeta makes it back to his pod, laughs and says that he will be back to destroy the Earth. Now it is up to Goku and Krillin to figure out how to wish back the others that died. Since Piccolo died (causing Kami to die too) the Earth�s Dragonballs are no longer in existence. So Goku, Gohan, and Krillin decide to go to the planet Namek to use the Namekian Dragonballs to wish all of their friends back to the living dimension. |
Ok first off let me say this is not a Sub-saga of the Frieza Saga. This is it�s own separate saga. Don�t believe me? Go to dragonballz.com and look at the sagas page. You�ll see then who�s right. The Namek Saga begins as Krillin, Gohan, and Bulma take off for Namek in the spaceship that brought the first Piccolo to earth. After Bulma learned some Namek from Mr. Popo they were ready to go. Look for the Namekian Dragonballs. It takes two months in the old Namekian spaceship to get to the planet Namek. Numerous things happened on the way to Namek. The first problem the gang had was they met up with the Space Ark Children. The Space Ark�s thought that Lord Frieza had sent them to kill them. After some convincing by Gohan and Krillin the Space Ark Children let them go and told them to get Frieza. The next odd thing to happen to them is they landed on a planet and then crashed. When they woke up they saw two �Namekians�, so they thought. After traveling the planet to find the 7 Dragonballs they realized they had been double-crossed. Then the two �Namekians� showed they weren�t Namekians at all. They had just dived into the minds of Krillin, Bulma, and Gohan and tricked them. So Krillin and Gohan kicked the crap out of them and they left. I�m sure their names were Zaakro and Raachi, but don�t hold me to that. After he is healed Goku goes on to Namek as well in a special Capsule Corp pod that Dr, Briefs made. The ship had a special gravity device that could multiply the Earth's gravity up to 100 times. At first he trained at 20 times gravity, then 30 times, and then 50. Then when the machine malfunctioned and shot up to 100 times gravity he decided he needed to train in that to become stronger. This increased Goku's power level incredibly, making his maximum before the Captain Ginyu fight around 500,000. Vegeta also ventured to Namek to seek revenge on Frieza (who raised him basically, you�ll learn more later on). Vegeta had no chance of beating Frieza when he first arrived but he received numerous power ups from his battles with Recoome, Kui, and especially Zarbon (who he fought twice, he got his ass kicked the first time, then healed up and killed him the second time). Now the big thing on Namek was the gathering of the Dragonballs. Frieza found 6 of them and Vegeta found the other 1. Now when Vegeta went to find the other 6 Gohan stumbled onto the one he had hidden so he took it from its underwater resting place. On the way back to where Bulma was hiding Gohan encountered Vegeta. Gohan hid the Dragonball from Vegeta but still got kicked in the stomach by him (mean wasn�t it). So Gohan, Krillin, and Bulma have one Dragonball and Frieza had the other 6. Now when Vegeta was healed in Frieza�s ship he stole the 6 Dragonballs and then convinced Krillin to give him the other one but nothing happened. Frieza then discovered the problem and then summoned the Ginyu Force to come to Namek and take care of business. This saga was just mainly a filler saga. The Captain Ginyu Saga Again this is not part of the Frieza Saga. It is its own saga. The Ginyu Saga starts when the Ginyu Force arrive on Namek to take care of Vegeta, Gohan, Krillin, and to find Frieza�s Dragonballs. When the Ginyu arrive you see just how gay they are and that there is no chance for them to succeed against Gohan, Krillin, and Vegeta. So we think. The Ginyu then find Vegeta, Gohan, and Krillin with all 7 Dragonballs. Captain Ginyu then stole the Dragonballs when Vegeta was distracted and left to take them back to Frieza, this left Guldo, Recoome, Jeice, and Burter to fight Gohan, Vegeta, and Krillin. Well the fighting started off with Krillin and Gohan flying to the air and launching an attack on Goldo. You think he�s done for right? Well that�s what I thought too when I first saw the episode. Then Goldo yelled out �Time Freeze!� and all time froze. This is one of the coolest moves in the series but is only used a few times (now what�s up with that?). Anyway Guldo runs out of the way and Gohan and Krillin are left stunned. He does the same thing on a few more occasions until Vegeta steps in and blasts him away. Then Recoome steps in to fight Vegeta and he kicks the living crap out of him. So Gohan and Krillin step in and they get the crap kicked out of them as well. When Goku finally arrives he narrowly saves Gohan, Krillin, and Vegeta from Recoome. He gives them all a Senzu Bean and they are all fully recovered. Recoome now comes at Goku and Goku just flies into him with his elbow and knocks him completely out. Then Vegeta steps in to kill Recoome and Goku tells him not to but he does anyway. Then its just Burter and Jeice left to fight Goku. They both fly at him but he�s fast enough to dodge everything and still look like he�s not even moving at all. Everyone is astonished by his speed and Vegeta wonders if he is even the legendary Super Saiyan. But Vegeta quickly puts that aside saying that Saiyans could only maintain that form in the Oozaru form. Goku then beats on Burter and again Vegeta kills him. Now by this time Captain Ginyu has shown up and decides to fight Goku. He and Goku are pretty evenly matched until Captain Ginyu punches himself in the chest and then steals Goku�s body leaving Goku in his beaten body. Now Ginyu goes back to Frieza�s ship to find the Dragonballs and encounters Krillin and Gohan. To make a long story short Goku shows up and convinces Krillin and Gohan that he is Goku but in Ginyu�s body. They believe him and eventually Goku gets his body back and Ginyu switches with the body of a frog (haha). Goku is beaten very severely by Ginyu and Vegeta brings Goku to a healing capsule to regain his strength. That concludes the Captain Ginyu Saga. The Frieza Saga While Goku is healing, it is up to Vegeta, Krillin, and Gohan to find the Dragonballs. They go to Guru and find out that the password is �porunga �. Now the Dragonballs had been buried in front of Frieza�s ship so that no one can find them but after some digging Vegeta, Gohan and Krillin happen to find them. Now when Vegeta decides to take a nap Gohan, Krillin, and Dende take all 7 Dragonballs to a remote island to call the eternal dragon. With their first wish they had Piccolo wished back to life after some bickering on King Kai�s planet on who needs to be wished back, because of Piccolo�s strong presence he got the nod from Yamcha, Tien, and Choazu. With their second wish they wished Piccolo to Namek to help fight Frieza, but they didn�t wish him to a specific spot and he got teleported to a spot halfway between Nail�s half-dead body and Frieza himself. Sensing that the weaker life force needed help Piccolo flew that way. They were then going to use the third wish to have Piccolo brought to the island but Guru passed away and so the Dragonballs disappeared along with him. After flying around Namek Piccolo found a nearly dead Nail and decided to fuse with him, knowing that he�s saving one of his own, knowing that Nail�s experience with Frieza will help later on, and knowing he�ll become more powerful after the fusion. Now when Piccolo finally meets up with Gohan, Krillin, and Vegeta they had all ready encountered Frieza. Gohan starts to hold his own against Frieza and he receives a power-up as well from Dende when Dende heals him. Frieza then transforms and boasts that in that stage his power level is well above 1 million. Everyone fights Frieza but to no avail. After Piccolo and Vegeta begin to push him farther he transforms again and he now says his power level is over 2 million. No one was making a dent in Frieza so he said they needed a little inspiration. So all of a sudden he flew at Krillin and stabbed him straight in the chest with one of his horns. Krillin falls to the ocean and thinking Krillin is dead Gohan gets extremely angry and launches a furious attack at Frieza and almost has him beat with a Masenko attack but he gives out at the last second and Frieza survives. Krillin is then taken out of the ocean and revived by Dende. Sensing Gohan�s power Frieza gets to his final transformation and Vegeta's challenges him to a fight. Vegeta just had a power increase when he convinced Krillin to beat him within an inch of his life so Dende can heal him. Vegeta explains that a saiyan�s power level increases greatly after serious injury. So Krillin blasts Vegeta straight through the stomach and darn near kills him. Vegeta then flies down to Dende and bullies him until Dende heals him. Seeing what Dende can do Frieza says he doesn�t need to live and so he kills Dende and the battle between Vegeta and Frieza begins. Vegeta looks to be winning at first but eventually Frieza proves to be just to strong for Vegeta. Back in Frieza�s ship Goku awakened and is now fully healed and he starts to make his way to the battlefield. He senses a large amount of life force so he flies in that general direction to see what is happening. When Goku arrives he sees Vegeta lying close to death and Vegeta begins to explain the details of his childhood and what made him be so evil. He tells Goku that he really never had a choice of whether or not to be good or evil because Frieza and Vegeta's Father, King Vegeta, raised him from birth to be a murderer. Frieza says that even a Saiyan corpse won't shut up and delivers the final blow with an energy beam through Vegeta's heart. Vegeta sheds a single tear and tells Goku not to let Frieza kill anyone else. Goku buries Vegeta and the fight between good and evil begins. Goku's power level at the start of the fight is now beyond comprehension to the rest of the Z Warriors due to his training on the way to Namek and the amount of healing he had on Frieza�s ship, but he still lacks the anger or great sorrow needed to turn Super Saiyan. He can hold his own pretty well against Frieza until Frieza boasts he is fighting at 2% of his power and then powers up to 50% of his maximum power. Goku then admits that he is holding back and both fighters agree to fight with full power. Frieza was beating Goku and seemed unbeatable. Goku powered up to 20 times Kaioken but he still didn�t have enough to fight Frieza successfully. So Goku gets the idea to power up a Spirit Bomb but instead of using just the planet�s energy (there wasn�t enough because of all the Namekians being dead) he uses the whole solar system�s energy. So he starts gathering energy and at first Frieza thinks that he�s just putting on a show but when Goku doesn�t answer and Frieza eventually sees the giant energy ball above him he knows something is up. So he begins to launch an attack at Goku and Piccolo comes in to distract Frieza and keep him from stopping Goku from gathering enough energy for the Spirit Bomb. After Frieza knocks down Piccolo and warrants him useless Piccolo yells out to Goku to throw the Spirit Bomb even though its not fully charged. Goku knows its his only chance so he throws it and Frieza can�t do anything and it�s a direct hit on him. Goku, Piccolo, Krillin, and Gohan all celebrate that�s he dead but Goku knows something is wrong. Then all of a sudden Frieza appears on top of a cliff and asks Goku if that�s all he has. Frieza then does the dumbest thing that he possibly could do. He picks up the defenseless Krillin with an energy attack and lifts him high into the air and crushes him with one blow. Goku yells to Frieza to stop the madness and all of a sudden Goku starts getting angry and he goes over the edge. He begins to power up immensely and finally the anger turns his hair yellow and his eyes green and Goku has reached the legendary stage of Super Saiyan. Frieza is stunned by this event and doesn�t know what happened to Goku. At 50% of his maximum power Frieza is no match for Super Saiyan Goku. Then Goku, wanting a real challenge, allowed Frieza to reach 100% of his full power. This still did nothing for Frieza; Goku's power level was only higher than Frieza's by about 2 million after Frieza powered up. Frieza is now completely bulked up and angry beyond belief because his worst nightmare, the Super Saiyan, has arose to defeat him. The fight now goes on furiously while the planet Namek disintegrates around the two warriors (Frieza took a giant energy ball and threw it into the core of Namek knowing it was his only way to destroy Super Saiyan Goku). Earlier in the battle everyone on Namek, including Vegeta was wished back to Earth and away from the unstable planet using the Earth�s Dragonballs (Piccolo was wished back which brought back Kami allowing the Earth Dragonballs to reform). Goku can now fight and has no one to worry about and can fight with nothing occupying his mind but victory. The fight now reaches a breaking point when Frieza throws two seeking Kienzans at Goku and Goku is strong enough to reflect them back at and cut Frieza into three pieces. Frieza was defeated by his own attack and was close to death. Goku talks to Frieza and even gives him a small amount of his own energy. This energy is supposed to be used as just enough for Frieza to escape into space and not die (again Goku is too trusting). Frieza is too evil to accept this charity and would rather die as long as he kills Goku in the process. So he uses the energy to form a single Kienzan to throw at Goku. Goku is in the air on his way to the spaceship when the Kienzan just misses his head and leaves a scratch on his face. Now Goku is extremely pissed and turns Super Saiyan again. Goku is disgusted by Frieza and delivers a gigantic energy blast that was supposed to kill Frieza. Back on Earth they use the Earth Dragonballs to wish back the Namekians and have them come to earth. 160 days later they gather the Namek Dragonballs and wish back Krillin, Tien, and Choazu. 160 days after that they call the eternal dragon again and they wish back both Yamcha and Vegeta. They then wish for a new planet for the Namekians and to have them instantly transported there. This concludes the most exciting saga in Dragonball Z history. |
