LOUGH DERG: A Group of local pilgrims went to Lough Derg on Friday morning August 11th 06, the bus stopped at Knock for a short while on the way up.

Pilgrims have been going to Lough Derg for over 1,000 years, they all do the exercises in bare feet and fasting for three days , only tea, toast or oat cake once a day and sleep in bed is allowed on the second day after 10pm. Most pilgrims seem to cope with the restrictions and some add on their own extras. In 1980 work began in improving and restoring facilities at Lough Derg, now many rooms and halls of various sizes are available for pilgrims , new hostel built in 1988, but  repayment must be made on E1.1 million debt outstanding.

Many activities take place inside the basilica, which was opened in 1931, including Mass, Night Vigil and various religious exercises. At the back of the white marble altar is a huge penal cross with Christ crucified, the tabernacle is very ornate like an old Irish reliquary in bronze decorated with a huge number of figures and ornaments, the lectern also in bronze is decorated with images of early Irish saints and scenes , also depicted is the Knight Owen as the story goes, he went to purgatory and after passing trough reached a land where people were singing hymns and everyone was welcome. His story of Lough Derg was well known abroad 800 years ago . The church can seat about 700 and has two galleries and a very high roof,  stained glass windows incorporating stations of the cross are by Harry Clark who died in 1931. Doing spiritual exercises with friendly people doing their rounds, in the quiet of day and night, within earshot of  the gentle lapping of the fresh water against the island, the opening of the dawn on a fine morning, all making your stay on the Island unforgettable.

St Davog a disciple of St Patrick  was the first abbot on Saints Island, he was born in Wales and died in 516, the Island was attacked by the Danes in 836. Others associated with Lough Derg include William Kane boatman, who ferried pilgrims to the Island he died in 1997, Pilgrimages were made by : Nora Hanrahan for 60 years; Jack Crummie, Anthony McGuire and Cissie McGuire 40 times; James Brady 42 times and Kathleen Duffy came 30 times. Who hosts I Lift My Eyes Newsletter?

Mission Statement of I lift My Eyes Ministries.

* To provide teaching on prayer and intercession and invite prayer
requests so that dedicated prayer warriors can see God move in the
lives of others. * To provide quality checked resource links for
Christians and for seekers who desire to know more about our Faith
and to be victorious and successful in all aspects of life. * To
provide and invite original Christian inspirational writings, quotes
and testimonies. * To provide resources for those with disabilities.

How Does This Website Fulfill Its Mission Statement?

These pages have grown from a simple three page website created back
in 1996 to over 450 pages and growing! We always seem to find new
areas to bless our brothers and sisters in Christ.

The prayer ministry pages reach thousands per month, some of whom
come to the website seeking to submit a prayer request stay to read
how to become more effective in their own prayer lives. Others wish
to develop a deeper intimacy in their prayer walk and find the
simple articles on prayer to be easy to understand and practical in
nature. We are thankful for the faithful members of the Ring Of
Intercessors who invite individuals to submit prayer request to
their own sites by following this cyber "prayer chain."

The disability resource section, including the Christians With
Disabilities Web Ring, provide helpful leads to web sites for people
living with disabilities and their loved ones as well as the general
public. The newest addition is a short article Katherine wrote
giving a few pointers for those creating websites who do not want to
hinder the disabled in their web design.

The "Whatever is Pure" section of this site invites poets, writers
and those who have a testimony to share to submit articles that
would uplift and inspire others. We have added the "Daily Christian
Quote" to this area of the web site so those who have not chosen to
be part of the mailing list for this quote can have access to the
rich quotes that we have discovered across the internet from
brothers and sisters in Christ.

Finally, The I Lift My Eyes Christian Links Directory section
provides over 1200 organized links. The majority have been
handpicked based on quality of the information or support they
provide. We have begun to invite webmasters to submit their sites as
links nominations. If you are a pastor, parent, youth, teen, child
or single, you will find resources here to help you in your every
day life, bible study, sermon writing, evangelism, apologetics and
your creative expressions of faith. There is a large section for
those in the creative arts as well as worship leaders and musicians.
Many of these links lead to support, internet fellowship and
encouragement.

Who is Behind the Website?

As you surf through the pages of this site, hopefully you will gain
insight into Katherine, the founder of I Lift My Eyes Web
Ministries. She is a Christian, and her life is found in Christ, so
His name is sprinkled through out all these pages. She was born with
a neuro-muscular disorder, called Charcot Marie Tooth Disease but
this has not really hindered her in living an active, productive
life. She worked with Youth With A Mission for quite a few years and
finally settled in Alberta, Canada. At present, she lives on a
disability pension, as her disability is slowly progressive. She had
to make the decision between working and having no life outside of
work whatsoever, and not working, but being dependent on a small
pension she decided, upon the advice of her doctors, to hang up the
work hat. However, someone once said, "You can take the minister out
of the pulpit but you can't take the ministry out of the minister."
When Katherine discovered the internet in 1995, she had no idea how
the Lord would begin to challenge her to continue ministering around
the world without taking a step from her apartment.
