Death: Took place on Sunday 22nd of Dec 02 of Michael Collins of Lisaniskea son of Joe Collins and the late Margaret Ahern. His brother John and sisters Eileen and Catherine survive Michael.
Death: Of Catherine Kennedy nee Nash daughter of Paddy Nash and Margaret Moore of Knockanure. Catherine is survived by her husband Joe Kennedy Sheffield sons John and Joe and sister Sheila in Knockanure. Brothers Bill, Jim, Ned, Moss and Michael predeceased Catherine Kennedy who was a niece of Nell Moore Sacristan of old Knockanure Church.

Death: of Fr William Broderick born Coilagurteen son of Paddy Broderick and Ellen Hudson. His brother Sean, Patrick, Desmond and sister Maria survive Fr William, Tom, Edward and Brendan predeceased him. Fr William Broderick was Ordained for the Sacramento Diocese on the 5th of June 1947.
Death: of Dan Keane Portlaoise, born Kilmeaney son of Tim and Bridget Keane. Dan went several times on duty with the Army Abroad including a tour of Duty in the Congo in 1962.Dan Keane's siblings included Joan, Michael, Ted, Jack, Dora, Mary, Pat, Bridget and Lil.




28th  November  02 of Mrs Mary Carmody (nee Stack), Tarmons House, Tarbert. Aged 91 years, she was mother of Bishop Eddie
Carmody, Corpus Christi, Texas and of Sr Mary Carmody, Mercy Convent, Carlow. Born Beale, Ballybunion,  mother of 13 children, ten sons and three daughters.

The Carmody family lived in Ahalana, Moyvane,  moving to  Tarmons in the early '50s.  The chief celebrant at the  funeral Mass was Bishop Eddie Carmody, son . The other concelebrants were Very Rev Mossy Brick, PP, Tarbert; Very Rev Philip O'Connor, PP, Ballylongford; Very Rev Michael Fleming, PP, Moyvane; Fr Bob Malone, Killaloe; Fr Mossy Dillane, Clonfert; Fr Pat Kelly, Athea; Fr Martin Hegarty, PP, Ballybunion; Fr John Shine, Kenmare; Fr Ger Aherne, Carlow; Fr John Killeen, Ballinasloe; Fr Tom Mahon, Knockanure and Fr Bernard O'Reilly, Dublin.

Mary was laid to rest in Kilnaughtin Churchyard. She  was predeceased by her husband Michael, who died 25 years ago and is survived by her ten sons, Bishop Eddie Carmody (Texas); Dr Michael Carmody (Dublin); John (Moyvane); Brendan (Sallowglen, Tarbert); Peter (Ennis); Dr Patrick Carmody (Killaloe); Maurice (Navan); Finbar (Tarmons, Tarbert); Noel (London) and Martin (Monalee, Co Limerick); three daughters, Mrs Eileen O'Connell (Tarbert); Mrs Sheila Flanagan (Moate, Co Westmeath) and Sr Mary Carmody (Carlow); sons-in-law, daughters-in-law; sister, Mrs Kitty O'Connor, Ballyduff; 38 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Tina Mattocks has traced her great grandfather Thomas White back to Glenagore  (baptised 22.12.1869) son of Thomas White and Bridget White. Siblings were Richard, John and Johanna.  Thomas married Mary Hunt of Knockanure Co Kerry. Daughter of James Hunt and Bridget Carroll.

History: Pierce C Mahony who had an Estate in Kilmorna took the title The O Mahony of Kerry in 1912 he lost his seat in Parliament in 1892 to Michael Davit his grandfather also called Pierce Mahony was born 1792

Death has taken place of Nora Mc Mahon nee Lyons of Gortaglanna in her 90th year.
Born Derry Listowel daughter of Dan Lyons and Nora  Hudson. Her children Tom, Dan, Jim, Eileen, Catherine, Nora, Mary and sister Madge aged 92 years who lives in the USA survive Nora. Her husband Dan died in 1985, brothers and sister who predeceased Nora were Tom, Dan, Jim, Dick, Jack and Eileen. Requiem Mass for Nora Mc Mahon was celebrated in Knockanure Church on Saturday last by Fr Michael Fleming PP assisted by Fr Leahy and Fr Mc Mahon, neighbours, Fr O Connell Duagh and Fr Hagerty Ballybunion. Donie Lyons of Dromrisk and Gerard O Sullivan of Pallaskenry played the Hymns on the Side Flute. Following Mass on a beautiful November day Nora Mc Mahon was laid to rest in Knockanure Old Churchyard among generations of the Mc Mahon family. Nora had twenty-five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Death: of Kitty O Connor nee Murphy daughter of Michael Murphy and Maria Galvin of Knockanure. Kitty moved to Ballydonoghue when she married the Late Tom O Connor of Lisselton, she is survived by her children Margaret, Tom, Mike and Declan.  Brothers John and Mike, Sister Sr. Declan. Murphy of St Josephs Ferbane. Brother Billy and sister Catherine Nolan predeceased Kitty O Connor. Who was laid to rest after Requiem Mass in Ballydonoghue Church on Sunday last.

Poet O Donnell who lived at Graigue was born about 100 years ago he had relations in the Parish. John Casey aged 90 gave me one of his Rhymes recently. It was composed about a girl who worked at Creagh Harnett's long ago, she came home from a local dance and knelt at a chair to say her night prayers. The Poet observing the girl composed the following.
"Few and short were the prayers she said,
Her head was bent in sorrow
Eyes eagerly gazed on a cake of bread.
She left not a bit for the morrow."

Death has taken place of Jim Hudson on 28th of September 02 . He lived most of his life at Knockbrean Lixnaw. Jim was born at Kilbaha son of Jack Hudson and Kate Hanrahan and is survived by his brother William and sister Peg Collins of Croak he was predeceased by Pat and Dick. Fr Michael Fleming PP and Fr Pat Moore CC Lixnaw celebrated requiem Mass for Jim Hudson in the Church of the Assumption Moyvane. Jim was laid to rest at Ahavoher beside his brothers Pat and Dick.
Death of Brendan O Carroll of Moyvane South born 1960 son of  Jeremiah and Margaret O Carroll of Tullamore Listowel. Brendan came to the Parish in 1988 and is survived by his wife Betty Meehan children Kristine, Danielle, April, Stephen and David, his Mother Margaret brothers Joe, Diarmuid, Michael, John and Pat sisters Mary, Maighread, Ann Maria, and Helen. Requiem Mass was celebrated in Moyvane Church for Brendan by Fr Fleming PP Moyvane assisted by Cannon Linnane Listowel, Fr Lawler PP Ballydonoghue and Fr Crean Lynch CC Listowel. The Mulvihill Family Keylod composed the Choir. After Mass Tim Joe Sheehan and John Dore sang songs, which touched the heart of everyone. A Guard of Honour was provided by the local young GAA footballers. Brendan O Carroll was laid to rest at Ahavoher Cemetery surrounded by his sorrowful family and friends.

Death of Sister Dympna Nunan  of the Presentation Convent Listowel and a native of Ardfert aged over 100 years. Sr. Dympna had a great interest in the Parish as her brother Joe Nunan taught at Kilbaha School from 1944 to 1969 and later transferred to Moyvane National School and thought there till 1975. Her brothers Fr Frank, Brendan and Joseph predeceased her. Requiem Mass for Sr. Dympna was Celebrated by Cannon Linnane who told us that Sister was well able to Celebrate they nearly ran our of Jubilees as she spent over 80 years a nun and 40 years principal of the Convent National School. Many pupils have testified of her abilities as a teacher and friend..
Among the priests in attendance included Fr Hayes, Fr Maher, Fr Fleming, Fr Leahy, Fr Nolan, Fr Kerins several other priests and sisters came to pay their respects. Children of the National School provided a guard of Honour. Sr. Dympna Nunan was laid to rest among the deceased Sisters of the Presentation in the Old Churchyard Listowel. Her Sisters and friends sang a lovely Latin Hymn over her grave in final farewell.


Death has taken place of Bishop James Collins CSSR Bishop of Mircena Brazil, born 22nd of February 1921 son of Michael Collins and Catherine O Connor of Moyvane. He lost his mother who died leaving eight children when James was fourteen months. Testimony to their aunt who reared the family four members joined the religious life Bishop James, Fr Pat who died 1969, Brother Canice died 1957 and Sister Theophane. Requiem Mass for Bishop James was celebrated at the Redemptorists Church Limerick on Monday 6th of October in the presence of sixty priests and a large congregation of family and friends. Bishop James Collins was laid to rest in the Church Grounds after Mass.
Bishop James Collins was Ordained Priest 3rd of September 1944 made Bishop 14th September 1967 retired 14th of February 1996. The Diocese of Mircena has about 10,000 Catholics for each Priest. The late James F Nolan our local correspondent for the Kerryman  always kept us up to date trough the notes of the important happenings in the life of Bishop James.

Death has occurred of Dan Kearney who was born and lived in Kilbaha son of Dan Kearney of Kilbaha and Hannah O Carroll of Ballylongford. Dan was predeceased by his brother Pat, and is survived by his brother Moss and sister Eileen Culhane. Fr Fleming PP Moyvane assisted by Fr Michael Lenihan Limerick celebrated requiem Mass for Dan Kearney in the Church of the Assumption Moyvane on Friday Last. Dan was laid to rest at Ahavoher graveyard on a beautiful autumn afternoon.



Death has taken place of Henry (Harry) Stackpoole of Aughrim Moyvane. Son of Jack Stackpoole and Ellen Sheahan, brother of the late Tommy Sr. Mary of the Cross, Perth Australia and the late None Wallace. His wife Bridie, sons John and Noel, daughters Mary, Lisha and Helen, brother Jack sisters Anne, Bridie and Kitty, survives him. Fr Fleming assisted by Fr Mc Mahon cousin, Fr Murphy cousin, Fr O Leary, Cannon O Leary and Fr O Connell, celebrated requiem Mass for Henry Stackpoole in the Church of the Assumption Moyvane. Sean Ahern and Stevie Donegan sang the hymns and Liam Hanrahan son-in -law of Henry in a few words gave us glimpse of the spirit of Henry. Henry was laid to rest at Ahavoher Cemetery.

Death also of Margaret Shine nee Nolan of Kilbaha daughter of Francis Nolan and Bridie Walsh of Moyvane South. Margaret is survived by her husband Con sons Sean, Frank and Nial and daughter Brid brothers Robert, Jim, Frank and Willie sisters Carmel Mc Grath and Mary Mc Elligott aunts Sr. Hannah and Sr. Sheila Walsh. Fr Fleming PP, Fr Buckley cousin, Fr Leahy cousin, and Fr Shine cousin, Fr O Leary, Fr Nolan, Fr Wrixon, Fr Mahony and Fr Moore, concelebrated requiem Mass for Margaret in Moyvane Church. Following Mass Margaret was laid to rest in the Shine family grave at Ahavoher.

Death has taken place on the 26th of October 02 of Fr Michael Stack retired Parish Priest of Ballydonoghue, born 12th of July 1915 son of Bob Stack and Mary Ann Lynch of Moyessa. Fr Stack was one of the last surviving Irish students who attended the Irish College in Salamanca he was ordained in 1940 and served in the Diocese till 1994. Fr Michael Stack was laid to rest in the Church Grounds Ballydonoghue following Requiem Mass attended by a great number of Priests, Sisters, relations    and friends. His brother Bob and sister Joan predeceased Fr Stack. Mrs Bill Terence Mc Mahon of Gortaglanna was his aunt.

The death has occurred of Bridget McCarthy (nee McCarthy) of Kilbaha, Daughter of Bridget Mahoney of Coilagurten and Joe McCarthy of Ballymacelligott, she is survived by her husband Tom McCarthy, sons Joe, Denis and John, she was pre-
deceased by her brother Garda John McCarthy, requiem mass for Bridget was celebrated by Fr o Leary and Fr Madden. Bridget McCarthy was laid to rest in Ahavoher Cemetery.

The also occurred of Dermie Kennelly of Tarmons, he is survived by his wife Kathleen, sons Con and Dan, Daughters May and Joan, and his sister Mamie Kennelly of Kilbaha, Dermie Kennelly was laid to rest among his ancestors at Murhur Churchyard.

Death has taken place of Catherine Lynch of Gortdromagowna she was predeceased by her husband James who died in 1996 and son Tom who died in 1983, Catherine is survived by her sons James, Jack, Con, Mike and Paddy her daughters Nancy, Betty and Margaret. Catherine Lynch nee Regan was born at Tullahinnell Ballylongford 81 years ago was laid to rest at Ahavoher Cemetery following Requiem Mass at Corpus Christi Church Knockanure.
Death has taken place in England of John Fitzgerald of Beenanaspig only son of Jim Fitzgerald and Mollie Kelliher. James is survived his sister Lizzie Lane at home while Mary and Ellie live in America.

Death has taken place of Bridget Stack nee Woulfe of Dromurhur a daughter of John Pat Mick Woulfe and Hannah Collins of Cratloe. Bridget is survived by her husband Pat sons Bobby, Dan, John, Richard and Pat, daughter Mary Goulding, brother Paud and sister Norrie Stack, her brother Dan Woulfe of Abbeyfeale predeceased her. Requiem Mass for Bridget Stack was concelebrated in the Church of the Assumption Moyvane on Tuesday last by Fr Michael Fleming PP, Fr O Leary, Fr Jerry Roche a cousin, Fr Pat Crean Lynch, Fr Tim Culhane and Fr Edward Mulvihill. Bridget was laid to rest at Ahavoher on her Birthday.

Died in England Tom Mc Elligott born Lisaniskea son of Jack Mc Elligott and Mary Herbert. His sister Peg who lives in England survives him. Tom was predeceased by his brother John who lived at home.

Death has taken place in England of John Fitzgerald of Beenanaspig only son of Jim Fitzgerald and Mollie Kelliher. James is survived his sister Lizzie Lane at home while Mary and Nellie live in America. Their sister Hanna Fitzgerald died some years ago.  

History: Notice in the Boston Pilot of 1850. Richard Stack from Knockanure left Ireland in November 1851 in the" David Cannon" for New Orleans. When last heard from was in Dearborn Co., Indiana. His wife Catherine Murphy would like to hear from him c/o Mrs Griffin 119 Twelfth Street, Louisville, Ky.

Aug 15th notes
Large crowds attended the Cemetery masses last week many home on holidays had the opportunity of meeting old friends while visiting and praying for their dear ones who are now at rest. Fr Fleming and Fr Mc Mahon concelebrated mass for the dead assisted by the Sacristan, Altar Servers, the Choir, Eucharistic Ministers and Readers.  . The weather being fine it was ideal for walking around the cemetery and remembering our neighbours who are gone from us. Thanks are due to all who prepared and took part in the memorable ceremonies.

The death has taken place of Tim Naughton, Knockaclar, Lyrecrompane following requiem Mass in Rathea Church Tim was laid to rest at Kilshinane Churchyard. He was predeceased by his wife Nora Kirby and is survived by son Tom, daughters Eileen, Joan, Nora and Mary Buckley Knockanure, 


Charles Kickham:  120 anniversary of his death is on August 22nd. Every old house in the parish must have at least one of his books.
Martin H Kennelly who became Mayor of Chicago in 1947 was born 115 years ago his father a Kerryman died when Martin was a child.

History: Bishop Moriarty visited Newtownsandes on August 4th 1856 and recorded his observations in his diary.

The death has taken place in Newbridge of Tom Broderick son of Paddy Broderick and Nell Hudson of Coilagurteen.

July 25 Notes
History: A report in The Kerryman of July 23rd 1932 tells us that Kilmorna man Jack Murphy was back from Chicago, Jack was the son of Michael Murphy of Kilmorna Lodge. 100 people attended Jacks Party. Step Dancers at the party were Mr Madigan of Trien and Miss Murphy of Timpleglantine. Mick Taylor Flute, Tim Mc Mahon Violin and Billy Doyle Mandolin supplied the music.

July 11th notes
The Death has occurred of Sr. M. Berchmans O Flaherty of Murhur Moyvane and who died in London recently.

History: The ruined Church in Murhur Churchyard measures 120 ft by 40ft the windows are 5ft from the ground. 60 years ago a big section of the upper part of the Church walls was knocked by the B.O.H because it was considered a danger.

July 4th notes
Wednesday is feast of St Thomas who is said to have travelled to India. The Kerryman of June 18th 1932 reports on one of our own that went to India. Archbishop Kenealy of Simla India has arrived in Ireland for the Congress, he was born Monmountshire his father a Kerryman and his mother a Corkwoman.

June 13 -02 notes
History: June 22nd 1932 marked the Official Opening of the Eucharistic Congress. The day before the Opening of Congress was General Communion Day for all the Children of Ireland.

Died recently Chris Sweeney nee Lynch of Carrueragh aged 90 years . A daughter of Pat Lynch and Bridget Keane, she was predeceased by her husband Joe Sweeney, her brother Pat Lynch, sisters Margaret, Catherine and Bridget.  Fr Michael Fleming celebrated requiem Mass for Chris Sweeney in Knockanure Church. Chris was laid to rest in Listowel Old Cemetery on June 3rd 02.
Death in Kilbaha of Brid Brouder nee O Brien of Carnagh, Ballyhahill she is survived by her husband Willie Brouder her mother Mrs Kit O Brien, Ballyhahill, mother in law Peg and sister in law Rita, Aunts and Uncles. Bridget's many friends formed a guard of honour at the Church to show their appreciation on the sad occasion of the death of a friend and neighbour, at such a young age.  Bridget was laid to rest at Ahavoher Cemetery following Requiem Mass in Moyvane Church on Thursday last.

June 6th 02 notes

The death of John B Keane brought thousands to Listowel to pay their last respects. Everyone have their own little story of their encounter with the great man. A local woman's uncle introduced J B to the National Broadcasting Station, another came from Clonakilty having known the man he had to come to give thanks for the memories, even the man who stole the coins from John B Keane's Phone Box 30 years ago admitted his guilt. On R na G our own Gabriel Fitzmaurice gave a nice vocal account in Irish of the way J B fitted into the local scene.

Died in London John Jackie Shanahan born Moyvane Village 86 years ago son of Con Shanahan and Nora Murphy. Jackie is survived his brothers Tim of Tullamore Listowel and Con in London, his sisters Nodie, Mary and Nancy predeceased him. Jackie Shanahan was laid to rest in Carpenter Cemetery London on Wednesday 29th of May 02.Jackie left Moyvane 49 years ago and will be missed by his Nephews and Nieces.

Death has taken place of David Dillon of Kilmeany aged 55 years. He is survived by his sisters Sheila Ann, Kay and Siobhain .  Fr Fleming celebrated David's Mass assisted by Fr Joe Foley of Bruff. Hymns were beautifully sung by his nieces Martha and Rita Fitzgerald of Bruff. David Dillon was laid to rest at Ahavoher in the Family Plot beside his Mother Margaret Mary Stack who died in 1974, his Father Vincent who taught in Coolard and died in 1998, his Aunt Kathleen who worked for the Irish Hospital Sweepstake and died 1992. David's grandmother was a National Teacher in Knockanure from 1903 to 1933.

Died recently: Michael Flaherty has died in England, Born at Gortdromagowna the son of Tim Flaherty and Hanna O Connor. Michael was predeceased by his brother Tim and is survived by his brothers John, William and Pat, sisters Nora, Mary and Hannah.

Death has taken place of Bridie Lenihan nee O Brien a daughter Bridget and Denis O Brien of Purt, she was predeceased by her husband David Lenihan ,her brothers Jack, Larry, Tom, and Denis, her sisters Peg, Kit, Nora, and Mary.

Bridie is survived by her sister Julie and brothers Dan and Batt.

Death has taken place on Nov 5th 01 of Paddy O Hanlon who was born 93yrs ago last January in Dooncaha, he is survived by his wife Mary Moran whom he married over 60yrs ago in Knockanure Church. Their children include Fr Jim Nottingham Diocese, Fr Tom Columban Fathers, Johnny, Ned, Mike, Pat, Noreen, Mary Flynn, Breda Brassill and Eileen Hyland. Paddy was predeceased by his sisters Nora, Mary Margaret and Nellie. Paddy was laid to rest In Kilnaughton Churchyard beside his father James and his mother Mary Mc Namara on Thursday Last.

Death has taken place of Eileen Mc Elligott Moyvane Village. A daughter of Tom Leahy and Elizabeth Keane of Lisanuisce . Eileen was predeceased by her husband Denis Mc Elligott who died 20th March 1982, she is survived by her son Garry daughter Anne daughter in law Betty Mc Elligott son in law Michael O Sullivan and grandchildren. Siblings of Eileen Mc Elligott included Fr Michael, Fr Jim d Aug 1999, Dr Tom, Jack, Sr. Josephine, Sr. Kate, Mary Imelda O Donnell , and Agnes Donovan. Eileen was laid to rest after Requiem Mass in Moyvane on the 11th of October in the family ancestral grave in Murhur.

Death has taken place of Willie Hennessy of Birr, Co Offally at the age of 92yrs. Willie came to the Parish as a young Postman c 1926 .His love for Knockanure and its people never waned returning every year to meet the locals and recall the characters and funny incidents of his young days as a Postman in Knockanure. Br Hunt of cooleen taught Willie in the Christian Brothers School in Birr. Willie Hennessy is survived by his Wife Kathleen his sons and grandchildren.

Death of Batt White of Coole East on Aug 27th 01 he is survived by his wife Maryann son Pat daughters Mary, Catherine, Betty, Ann and Margaret. Batt was laid to rest at Holy Cross Athea. The late Batt White was father of Mrs Catherine Murphy Kilmorna.

Death has taken place of Joe Goulding born 71yrs ago in Knockanure the son of Mick Goulding and Nell Heffernan. Joe is survived by his wife Sally whom he married in 1963 five sons and one daughter. His brothers Christy and Mike, sisters Mary, Patricia and Sr. Phil. Joe Goulding sailed from Cobh in 1949 for the USA he resided with his uncle Tom Heffernan in Boston before joining the army. Death of Kieran Sheehy born Lyreacrompane 41yrs ago the son of Bridie Sheehy and the late John Joe. Kieran is survived by his wife Loretto children Barry and Ciara. Sisters Hannah Mai and Noreen, brothers John Joe and Michael. Kieran Sheehy was laid to rest in Rath Cemetery . His sister Hannah Mai Collins lived at Trien for many years.



A special Prayer Service was held in Knockanure on Fri 14th last in memory of all who suffered in the Tue 11th atrocities. Fr Fleming PP presided assisted by Fr Mc Mahon The Service included readings from the Bible and Hymns from the Choir Fr Fleming sympathised with all who suffered. Friday 14th was a very symbolic day as it was the feast of The Triumph of the Cross.

For centuries many followers of Mohammed were noted for their prayerful life, builders of beautiful buildings, artists , explorers and traders. The bad deeds of a handful will not tarnish the good of millions.

Jack is survived by his wife Bridie Kennelly son John daughter in law Tina and grandchildren, his brothers Dan and Pat , sister Sr. Johanna USA. He was predeceased by brothers Tim, Tom and Philip, sisters Bridget and Elizabeth. Jack Leahy born 90yrs ago son of Tim Leahy and Bridget Danaher was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery Athea.

The oldest man in the Parish Born 1903 has passed away James Moore one the most Senior Pioneers in the Country .James was son of William and Margaret Flaherty of Kilmorna. He

was predeceased by brothers William &Tom .Sisters Mary & Sr. Kathleen .James is survived by his wife Nora Nee Flaherty And Brother Fr Tom ,his children Michael, James, William, Tom, Ned, Kathleen, Margaret and grandchildren . Mass was celebrated by Fr J Nolan PP Assisted by Fr Michael Leahy and Fr Kerins cc Listowel. James Moore was buried with his Ancestors in Old Knockanure Churchyard.

The death of William Stack brought great sadness to his wife Kathleen Enright who lost her only brother Michael Joe Enright just days before. William was son of Edmond andBridget O Hanlon The Hill .He is Survived by his brother Dr Tim, sisters May Trant, Cathleen Connor, Dolly Dillane, Margaret predeceased him. William Stack was buried at Ahavoher following mass Celebrated by Fr Nolan pp assisted by Fr Lawlor pp Ballydonoghue a cousin, and Fr O Connell Tarbert.

and Nellie Keane the Hill Knockanure, her husband Ml McCarthy of Fenit and Cork pre deceased her.

Doreen is survived by her daughters Theresa and Orla her brothers James in Knockanure and Tom in Cork and her sister Theresa. Deceased members of her familly include Sr. Mary, Josie, Liola,Mike and John

Also died recently Davy Fitzgerald of Castlegregory. Davy wrote the notes for his parish for 40 years,a man for all seasons we will all miss him.

Deceased members of her family in Gortdromagowna Sr. Cathleen a Brigidine Nun , Mary Who married Lyons in USA , Bridie also USA Jerry died young, Francis on the home farm, Pat in Canada and John who was born March 1st 1900 . The O Carroll Plaza at The University of Duquesne was named in his honour.

Sudden Death has occurred on May 13th 01 of Tom O Connor of Elm View Bunagara son of Tom and Moll Looney. He is survived by his Wife Mary Ann Quinn sons Tom, Mike and James daughter Margaret sisters Joan Carey Listowel, Peg Stack Lixnaw, Mai Morrissey Dublin and Helen Natle England. Tom was laid to rest after Requiem Mass in Listowel Old Churchyard.

Death of Jack Mc Carthy of Pilgrim Hill in his 86th Year son of John and Ellen Scanlon. He is survived by his Wife Ciss Ahern and children Eileen, Mary, Peg, Nora, Elizabeth, Jim , Danny, Philomena, Nuala, Anna May, Theresa, Joseph, Marian and Carmel. He is survived by 67 Grandchildren. His daughter Catherine Rahilly predeceased Jack .Jack Mc Carthy was in good health till recently and was looking forward to the 68th Anniversary of his wedding in Sept next. Jack was laid to rest in Ahavoher Cemetery after Requiem mass in St Brigid's Church Duagh.

Fr E Godfrey was Parish Priest of St Gregory's Liverpool . He was laid to rest at Rath Cemetery after a long life serving the Church.

Death of John Kearney aged 53 yrs of Moyvane Village. Son of Dan Kearney and Bridie Buckley . He is survived by his wife Mary Thornton children Francis, Ronan, Pat and Myles. John was brother of Fr Myles, William, Michael , Oliver, Mary and Breda. Requiem Mass was Celebrated by Fr Myles Kearney assisted by Fr Nolan PP, Fr Egan, Fr O Leary retired PP, Fr Shine Moyvane, Fr Maher Asdee, Fr Brick Tarbert, Fr Ahern Tralee, Fr Buckley Moyvane, Fr Sheehy Clounmacon, Fr Mc Mahon Knockanure, Fr Franciscan of Knocktopher. Among the gifts presented at the Offertory was the Chalice presented by the family to Fr Myles on his Ordination Day, a Cup from Cappamore Show, A remembrance of 1984 Coursing , A Rosary Beads and a Replica Churn all helped to recall the busy and active life of John Kearney who was laid to rest at Ahavoher on Sat 9th June 01.

Death of Kit Keane Clounpruhus a daughter of Jack Dunne and Kit Wren of Dromurhur. Kit is survived by her husband Donal Keane and sons Jerry, Donal, Mike, Brendan, Liam, PJ and Eddie. Her sister Mary and brothers Pat, John, Tom, Tony she was predeceased by Brendan and Liam. Kit Keane was laid to rest at Ahavoher after Requiem Mass in the Church of the Assumption Moyvane.

Also died Con Greaney of Rooska born Jan 1st 1912 died on June 22nd 01.He was laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery on Sunday in the presence of his family and musical friends who gave him a last farewell. A well respected singer of folk songs .His many friends in Limerick , Kerry and Clare will miss him.

Also died Hannah O Connell nee Moloney born Coilagurteen a daughter of Tim Moloney and Joan Loughnane. Hannah Lived at Craughatoosane Listowel was predeceased by her husband Michael her brother John and sisters Sr. Anastasia, Lil, Annie and Maryanne. Her sons Tim, John, Dan and Michael survive her. Requiem Mass For Hannah O Connell was Celebrated by Fr Lenihan CC Listowel she was laid to rest in Listowel Old Cemetery on Wed Last 27th June 01.On a historical note Hannah was a grand niece of M T Moloney Attorney General at Ottawa in 1892 also of Fr William Moloney a Missionary on the Gold Dust Trails who died at Sutter Creek in 1903.

Death has taken place of Willie Hennessy of Birr, Co Offally at the age of 92yrs. Willie came to the Parish as a young Postman c 1926 .His love for Knockanure and its people never waned returning every year to meet the locals and recall the characters and funny incidents of his young days as a Postman in Knockanure. Br Hunt of cooleen taught Willie in the Christian Brothers School in Birr. Willie Hennessy is survived by his Wife Kathleen his sons and grandchildren.

Death has taken place of Pat Lynch Carrueragh son of Pat Lynch and Bridget Keane, his sisters Chris Sweeney and Margaret Mc Elligott survive him. Sisters Kit Sweeney and Bridie Flavin predeceased Pat. His remains were received at Knockanure Church by Fr J Nolan and Fr M Fleming. Requiem Mass was Celebrated by Fr Fleming

And Fr Mc Mahon. Pat Lynch was laid to rest in Listowel Old Churchyard . 9 families lived in the Bog Lane when Pat was going to School in the 1920s . His Family bought the Drury Homestead and lived there for some time.

Death of Sean Larkin Carrueragh son of Jack Larkin and Kate Culhane. He is survived by his wife of 44yrs Myrrh Dowling and children PJ, Chris, Noel, Tim, Martina and Karen Sisters Mary Kearney Kinsale and Noreen O Connor Kilbaha. Sean's brother Fr Paddy Larkin USA was unable to attend the funeral. Requiem Mass was Celebrated in Corpus Christi Church Knockanure on Sunday afternoon by Fr Michael Fleming PP assisted by Fr Tom Mc Mahon. Fr Fleming in his Homily asked us to step back and sit at the feet of Christ. Sean Larkin was laid to rest among his ancestors in Listowel Old Churchyard. A historical note Sean's Grand Aunt Larkin at one time farmed the land where the Knockanure Church is now built.

Death of Jim Moloney of Croom. Born Islandanny son of Jim Moloney and Baby Fitzgerald There was 10 children in the family including John Joe, Michael, Fr Tom, Denis, Ted, Theresa, Peg, Joan and Ita.

Tom was buried in Ahavoher Cemetery beside his late wife Mary. Tom O Connor worked for the Council repairing Cottages ,Bridges a great worker with a gifted and strong pair of hands. He was involved in building the wall that surround Ahavoher Cemetery.

The death has also occurred of Tom Lyons Derry, Son of Dan Lyons and Nora Hudson. He is survived by his Wife Josie Wallace Sons Sean, Tom and Joe, sisters Nora McMahon of Gortaglanna and Madge Heaney Long Island New York. His son Dan and Daughter Maureen pre- deceased him.

Deaths: the death has occurred of Michael Hennessy, who lived in parish for many years. In 1966 at the age of 34 he played with Moyvane in the North Kerry final. That same after noon he won a county medal with Ballyduff. Every team he played with always won. He will be sadly missed by his Family and Friends. The death has also occurred of John Joe o Brien, age 79 years. He and his family were well known in the Parish. Died on June 1 Mary Flaherty NT nee Woulfe. Mass: was celebrated at Gale Bridge (Ahavoher) cemetery on Monday last, by Fr. J. Nolan P.P. assisted by Fr. Tom McMahon. A huge crowd attended . Thanks to the Moyvane church choir under the direction of Mary Stack Kennelly who sang beautifully. Thanks to all who helped in any way to prepare for the evening. After mass both priests visited various graves in the cemetery.

Kilmorna born Priest Monsignor Tom Moloney died 16th April 1986.

He went to San Diego in 1946. In 1955 his Bishop asked him to start a new Parish in Riverside . Where Fr Moloney Est. Our Lady Of Perpetual Help Church, supervised the construction of a new School ,Convent Church and Rectory. His Grandmother was Hudson of Kilbaha.

Death has occurred of Margaret Cronin Of Knockanure Village and England. Her wish was to come home to the little Village she loved.

Margaret was daughter of Tim Cronin and Mary Mulvihill she is survived by her brothers Tom ,Tony and Pat, sisters Catherine and Bess. Ned, Jack, Jim Michael and Mary predeceased Margaret who was buried at Ahavoher immediately after Mass.

Death of Butch Moore recently we were all proud of him as Irelands first Eurovision Contestant in 1965 .With Walking the Streets in the Rain. He had dinner with the Presentation Sisters in Listowel in June 1969.

Death has taken place of Peg Kennelly nee Curtin. Of Gortdromagowna .She was born in Mountcollins Peg is survived by her sons Matt and Nicholas, daughters Anne , Nora and Teresa. Her remains were removed from Finucane`s Funeral Home to Knockanure Church Where Prayers were recited by Fr Nolan pp, Fr Mc Mahon and Fr Gunn. It being Holy Thursday no Mass is Celebrated on this day. Requiem Mass for Peg will take place on Thursday Evening 19th April at 7.30pm in Knockanure Church. Peg Kennelly was laid to rest at Ahavoher beside her late Husband James Kennelly who died 29th July 1997.

Death of Mrs Bridie Walsh Keane of Coilagurteen. Born Coolard a daughter of Dan Walsh and Bridget Galvin of Coolkeragh. Bridie is survived by her husband Dan Coilagurteen, sons Brendan, Paudie, Joe and Michael, her sisters Kitty Keane London and Siobhain Barrett Carrig-on-Shannon her brother John Walsh lives in Chicago. Bridie was predeceased by her son Daniel J who died 13-4-1987,her brothers Ned, Dan, Bill, Jer and sisters Mary and Nora. Good Friday prayers were recited in Moyvane Church by Fr Nolan pp and Fr Mc Mahon for the Soul of Bridie Keane. Burial took place at Ahavoher on 13th of April 01 next to her son Daniel J Keane. To conclude on a historical note Ned Batt Walsh a noted musician who taught Jerry Molyneaux to dance was a Grandfather to Bridie.

Vocations Sunday on May 6th over 300 from the Parish are remembered for giving their lives work for the Church. To mention one Fr William Moloney born 160 yrs ago son of Tadhg Moloney and Kate Enright of Coilagurteen. Fr Moloney spent his life Ministering on the Gold Dust Trails. He died at Sutter Creek 1903.



Died :Larry Collins of Lisaniskea aged 85yrs . Son of Pat Collins and Nell O Connor he was a brother of the late Paddy, Dick, Nell May and Nancy O Connor. Larry is survived by his Wife Ellen Flaherty and Children Frank, Jim, Patsy, Maurice, Mike, Kathleen, Eileen and Margie. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr Nolan pp assisted by Fr Tom Mc Mahon and Fr Michael Leahy. Moyvane Choir Sang Hymns during Mass which was appreciated by all .Larry has 28 grandchildren many of them participated in the Mass. After Mass Larry Collins was laid to rest among generations of his Ancestors in Murhur Churchyard on 23rd of April 01.

Death of Jack Scanlon born Trien son of Tim Scanlon and Mary Buckley. Jacks brother Thady and sister Maureen Relihan predeceased him. When Jack Married he moved to Inchamore . He is survived by his Wife Noreen Flavin of Carrueragh and children Tim, John, Dan, Pat and Mary. Jack Scanlon was laid to rest in Ahavoher Cemetery on April 24th 01 after Requiem Mass in Moyvane Church Celebrated by Fr Nolan pp assisted Fr Mulvihill a native of Inchamore.

Death occurred recently of Jimmy Hickey Rathoran he was a great preserver of local history his knowledge was greatly appreciated by his many friends.

Death of Jack Mc Carthy of Pilgrim Hill in his 86th Year son of John and Ellen Scanlon. He is survived by his Wife Ciss Ahern and children Eileen, Mary, Peg, Nora, Elizabeth, Jim , Danny, Philomena, Nuala, Anna May, Theresa, Joseph, Marian and Carmel. He is survived by 67 Grandchildren. His daughter Catherine Rahilly predeceased Jack .Jack Mc Carthy was in good health till recently and was looking forward to the 68th Anniversary of his wedding in Sept next. Jack was laid to rest in Ahavoher Cemetery after Requiem mass in St Brigid's Church Duagh.

SAD FAREWELL: The people of Ballydonoghue and Moyvane joined with the family and friends of Jim Mulvihill to pay their last respects. Huge crowds queued to pay tribute to Jim and to sympathise with his family his sons Tony, Jer, Tom and Joe and his daughters Nora and Margaret also Jim's brother Jer in Moyvane and his sister Mai Scanlon, Moyvane and his brother Con in England. He will be sadly missed for his quick wit and humour. Ni bheidh a leithead ann aris..

Death of James Brosnan of Kilmorna and Kildare .He was laid to rest in St Michael's Cemetery on Feb 4th 01.

Death of Jack Neligan of Kilconlea he is survived by sons Sean of Kilbaha, Tim and Tom and sister Mrs Sarah Mulcahy Meenoline.

Deaths : Jack Quaid born 1915 was laid to rest at Holy Cross on Feb 15th 01 .A native of Lr Direen his Father David was a Veteran of the Boer War .Jack is survived by his Daughters Noreen and Ann Sons Jack and Joe, Sisters Margaret ,Han and Nora, His Wife Kit Brosnan, Sister Mary Brothers Joe , Pat and James predeceased him. Jack and Kit Quaid were great Historians.

Death of Catherine [Cissy] Kennelly Mc Elligott of The Cloth Hall on Feb 14th 01 . A daughter of John Kennelly a well known Tailor in Listowel. Both Cissy and her Sisters Margaret, Una and Maura, Brothers Matt , John the late Michael, Patrick, Jim and Maurice were regular visitors to their Aunt Mary Ann and Uncle Jim in Gortdromagowna .

Deaths: The death has occurred of Kathleen Murry nee Kennelly born Skibereen 87yrs ago, a daughter of Jerry and Kit Kennelly. The late Kathleen had brothers Donal, Tim and Dermot, sisters Mai Kennelly, Gertie called Sr. Baptist and Jo Allen. Jerry Kennelly was born at Knockanure trained at Harrington's in Cork City and operated a Hardware Store in Skibereen.

Death of Ita Griffin Carrigkerry a daughter of Tom Griffin and Margaret Hunt. She is survived by her sisters Peg Moloney of Knocknisnaw, Bridie Fitzgerald Carrigkerry and brother Michael Griffin her brother John died last year. Ita was laid to rest beside her father in Timpleathea Churchyard after Requiem Mass in Carrigkerry Church. A historical note Ita Griffins ancestor John Griffin wrote to Trinity College in 1720 claiming right to renew lease of lands in Knockanure held by his father John.

Death : Has taken place of Mrs Winifred Shanahan nee O Carroll of Kilbaha aged 94yrs. Born Gortdromagowna a daughter of Jer O Carroll and Margaret Lynch she was predeceased by her husband Jack R who died in 1974 she is survived by sons Richard Lower Athea And Jerry on the home farm daughters Cathleen Sheahan Athea and Margaret Kenlough Enniscorthy. Deceased members of her family who were born in Gortdromagowna include Margaret O Connor Duagh who died in Feb 01, Sr. Cathleen a Brigidine Nun , Mary Who married Lyons in USA , Bridie also USA Jerry died young, Francis on the home farm, Pat in Canada and John who was born March 1st 1900 . A notable cousin of Winifred was Monsignor Edward J Kissane 1886-1859 President of Maynooth was a relation from the Lynch side of the family.

Death of Timmy O Keeffe of Cool West a well known musician . He player with several Bands including The Western Star and The Boys in Blue. He is survived by his wife Peg sons Tim and Joe daughters Eleanor and Breda brothers Tom , Joe, Pat and Ned sisters Mrs Kelly and Mrs Leech and Aunt Nonie. Timmy was laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery .

Sudden death while driving a lorry of James O Connor on Aug 15th 1951 at Owenamoy Moyvane. He was accompanied by his wife Mary Foley and their two children . It was Denis Costelloe of Glin who was with the party who used the brake to stop the vehicle. James O Connor was a native of Glin and was on his way home after a visit to the Foley family At Gortdromasillihy. As it was Sports Day in Knockanure he as hoping to be gone home before the sports ended as the road was quiet then

Aug 2nd 01

Death of Jim Sexton of Gortdromagowna on July 26th Feast of the parents of the blessed Virgin. Jim was son of Denis Sexton and Nora Reidy he is survived by brothers Liam and Brendan and sister Phil Molyneaux. His Sister Eileen and brothers Denis, Tom, Michael, and John predeceased him. Jim's remains were received at Knockanure Church by Fr Michael Fleming PP and Fr Brendan O Callaghan. Requiem Mass was Celebrated by Fr Fleming PP assisted by Fr Mc Mahon and Fr O Callaghan. James Sexton was laid to rest in the Family Plot in Old Knockanure Churchyard . Jim would surely smile at his diverse friends as they stood around his grave and recited forgive us our trespasses as we forgive these who trespass against us.

Death of Ita Cronin nee Sheahan born Knocknagorna . Her Husband David died last December , Ita is survived by daughters Mairead Sullivan, Catherine Sullivan, Sheila Sullivan and Anne Fitzpatrick.

Death of Lil Mulvihill nee Foley of Pittsburgh. Lil was born Tubbertureen Moyvane 91yrs ago and emigrated to USA at the age of 17yrs. Lil was daughter of Mick Foley and Mary Brosnan [Islandanny] her only brother John lived on the

Home farm her sister Bridie Harnett lived with her husband Jack in Dromtrasna Abbeyfeale, Mary died of TB aged 18yrs. Lil was laid to rest far from the graves of her ancestors who are buried in Old Knockanure Churchyard.

The death took place on Aug 10th 60yrs ago of M J Flavin he was MP for North Kerry 1896 to 1918. He had many connections with the Parish. On 6th March 1901 Michael J was removed from the House of Commons during a Protest organised by the Irish Parliamentary Party.

Death has taken place of Willie Hennessy of Birr Co Offally at the age of 92yrs. Willie came to the Parish as a young Postman c 1926 .His love for Knockanure and its people never waned returning every year to meet the locals and recall the characters and funny incidents of his young days as a Postman in Knockanure. Br Hunt of cooleen taught Willie in the Christian Brothers School in Birr. Willie Hennessy is survived by his Wife Kathleen his sons and grandchildren.
