Auction of 300 acre farm at Coolnaleen in one or two lots on November 5th , house had 10 rooms, buildings were put up at a cost of �2,000, the land was bought by James O Callaghan trough the Land Commission in 1904, local man M. J. Nolan of Newtownsandes was Auctioneer. The Quarterly Horse Fair which was started some years ago by Mr M O Connor and Mr M Moran was a success, prices best price Mr Murphy  of Inch, Mr Buckley of Knockane got �45, John Galvin sold two handsome animals for 25 and �35, Dan Boland �35, Mr Dillon, Behins �36, Mr Fitzmaurice Newtownsandes and Mr Barrett Lenamore got good prices. Coursing was held in Tralee and a St Petersburg official assassinated, woman arrested.

Mr Tom O Donnell writes from Copenhagen on the Danish Agricultural Industry, he gave an extensive account, sales of Danish butter amounted to just over �1 million in 1881and in 1905 they sold �9.5 million. HISTORY: Kerry Evening Post of September 2nd 1857 had bits of news from a wide variety of places, including news of the Corkman George Strickland Kingston who was recently appointed Speaker of the South Australian Parliament, he was also the first white man to set foot on the site of Adelaide, his wife is from Bandon; Austrian Army in Italy to be reduced by 20,000; The Cost of election in North Devon was �13,722- 5s-5d; Money pledged for the Tralee Tarbert railway amounted to over �7.000; Admirers of Mr Fergus O Connor in Nottingham have collected �40 to erect a monument to him; Wesley Conference in Liverpool  told they have 270,000 members with 17,893 on trial; Letters from Southern Russia state that there is a great abundance of soft wheat, but hard wheat was injured by the weather; A caravan of 500 persons and 1,500 horses which started from Damascus to  Baghdad perished in the desert except for 30 persons; Died in New York John F Raymond aged 27 years a printer, died in Tralee of Dropsy Mr Thomas Benner, leaving a large family; Annual Cattle Show will be held in Tralee in October 1957; It has become fashionable in Kentucky for runaway wives to take the husbands bed and linen; A young lady who was rebuked by her mother for kissing her intended, replied with a quote from the Bible �Whatsoever ye would that man should do unto you, do ye even so unto them�. Spanish Parliament last session closed in Valencia in October 1937 and did not meet again till February 1st 1938; Frank Thornton died in Chicago on 21st of October 1997, he was born at Kilbaha in 1908, went to Chicago in 1929, in 1956 he was involved in organising Irish Musicians Association; First transatlantic flight from Shannon took place on Monday 24th October 1945.

PARENTHOOD: Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger (1883-1966) gave a talk to the women�s branch of the Silver Lake Ku Klux Klan 81 years ago this year; following her talk she received a dozen invitations to other branches of the organisation. Selected quotes from her works;  The purpose in promoting birth control was "to create a race of thoroughbreds," she wrote in the Birth Control Review, Nov. 1921 (p. 2);  Margaret Sanger, Pivot of Civilization, referring to immigrants and poor people described them as human weeds,' 'reckless breeders,' 'spawning... human beings who never should have been born." .



OPENING of Knockanure Community Centre took place on Sunday afternoon October 7th `07, a big crowd attended and were entertained by local musicians and singers, several speeches brought to light all the groundwork that took place in in preparing for this special day, the young children were in their element and so were most of the adults, some openly remembering the never to be forgotten memories of their schoolings. The centre was officially opened by past pupil Noreen Troata Walsh, nee Finucane.

In 1857 robbery of orchard cost defendant 2/6 compensation and a 16 shilling fine; Kerryman of September 20th 1947 reports that Clann na Poblachta will contest by election in South Kerry where they have 25 branches, New organisation established for fishermen called Muintir na Mara, UDC raises weekly wages of three stonemasons from �3- 5 shillings to �4, Rent of labourers cottage 1s and 3d, American farmer had statue erected on his farm in thanksgiving for the return of his five sons from the war, Prominent Kerry men give their views on the Kerry v Cavan match in New York, Edmond Sandes charged Martin Mulvihill and Patrick Halpin with trespass. The Kerryman of the time carried many inspiring articles, for example the life of the great engineer James Nasmyth , born 1808 who left school at age 12 years and at age 18 brought out the first of his 40 major inventions, his advice was, the eyes and fingers are the principal inlets to sound practical knowledge , he lived to be 90 years. Another article tells us about German engineers who developed a system for long range power transmission.
