08 March 5th Knockanure

KNOCKANURE

BEST Wishes to the students from both Knockanure and Moyvane National Schools who received their Confirmation in Moyvane Church on Monday 25th of February `08. This year new Principals Mrs Donegan and Mrs Madden were in charge of preparing the students for this special memorable event in the childrens lives. Bishop Murphy complimented all who were involved in preparing the children for the Sacrament of Confirmation. The Moyvane Choir were in their usual best on the day, we all hope that all confirmed will continue to be part of the living Catholic community. Thanks to our Parish Priest Fr Lucid, who carries a very busy schedule and still copes with emergencies and all the extra unexpected that happens every now and again.

THOUGHT: The purpose of fasting is to loosen to some degree the ties which bind us to the world of material things and our surroundings as a whole, in order that we may concentrate all our spiritual powers upon the unseen and eternal things. Ole Kristian O. Hallesby

ENERGY: Sustainable Energy Ireland's Renewable Energy Information Office is hosting a study tour to the forthcoming 12th International Conference on Passive Houses, in Nuremberg, Germany which takes place on 10-13 April 2008.

GRANTS of E12.5 million will be used by higher education institutions in Kerry and Limerick to deliver further education to the people of Kerry, Limerick and Clare.

JOBS: Listowel and Tralee Chamber of Commerce, IT Tralee and Kerry Technology Park representatives are going to America to encourage investment in Kerry. More jobs in the farming sector will be lost following the present WTO talks, as Ireland is a big exporter of food; we have the most to loose.

We were told that  jobs will be lost following the loss of the Shannon/Heathrow Slots, no news of a replacement for the Cork to Swansea ferry yet and tourist season is approaching. The opposition are more interested in water under the bridge than working for the here and now.

HISTORY: 350 Irish pilgrims on February 6th 1993 left the North Wall in Dublin to begin their trip to the Eternal City to congratulate Pope Leo X111 on the golden jubilee of his episcopate. While 350 went on the actual pilgrimage over 1,500,000 associates of the pilgrims were enrolled to show their love for the Pope. The pilgrims got a great chance to see Europe in their travels from Dublin to London, then Brussels to Lucerne to Milan to Ancona with a visit to Loretto then Rome. While in Rome the visited the Audience Chamber where the Pope met each pilgrim individually. The pilgrims also visited several places in Rome and vicinity and of course they came home by a deferent route, arriving in London on March 2nd 1893, it being also the eighty third birthday of the Pope. It took just over 12 hours to travel from London to the North Wall where they were royally treated. Among the pilgrims were Mrs G. McElligott of Mount Rivers, Listowel; Very Rev. T Nolan Lixnaw; Rev F. Hurley, C.C. Newcastle West; James Pegum, Glin; St John and Miss F Donovan of Tralee; H. E. O Brien, Blennerville and Very Rev. W. O Callaghan Adm., St Johns, Tralee. A full account of the pilgrimage was published in 1893 by Rev. J Nolan in his book History of the Irish National Pilgrimage to Rome. THOUGHT: Tell God all that is in your heart, as one unloads one's heart, its pleasures and its pains, to a dear friend. Tell Him your troubles, that He may comfort you; tell Him your joys, that He may sober them; tell Him your longings, that He may purify them; tell Him your dislikes, that He may help you conquer them; talk to Him of your temptations, that He may shield you from them: show Him the wounds of your heart, that He may heal them; lay bare your indifference to good, your depraved tastes for evil, your instability. Tell Him how self-love makes you unjust to others, how vanity tempts you to be insincere, how pride disguises you to yourself and others, Francois Fenelon.
