THOUGHT: When a man really gives up trying to make something out of himself - a saint, or a converted sinner, or a churchman, a righteous or unrighteous man,...when in the fullness of tasks, questions, success or ill-hap, experiences and perplexities, a man throws himself into the arms of God...then he wakes with Christ in Gethsemane. That is faith, and it is thus that he becomes a man and Christian, says Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

FAITH: They recognised him at the breaking of bread Luke 24:35. Our prayer, especially our celebration of the Mass, must connect the mysteries we celebrate with the ordinariness of the lives we lead. This back-and-forth between worship and life is the pattern of our faith. There is a rhythm in our celebration of the Sunday Mass as there is in our own lives ordinary moments and times of greater celebration, taken from the Parish Newsletter. FAITH: And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, Whom shall I send?' Then I said, Here am I! Send me!' Isaiah 6:8 ; It is through working together, praying together and planning together that we discover our respective roles as Christians. Today's parish needs the participation and the involvement of all whereas in the past, much parish activity revolved around what the priest did. Collaboration between priests and parishioners is not about helping the priest'. Collaboration recognises, uses and celebrates the gifts God has given each of us, for the service of all e.g. parish pastoral councils, weeks of directed prayer and liturgy groups, taken from Parish newsletter.

THOUGHT: Our souls may lose their peace and even disturb other people's, if we are always criticizing trivial actions -- which often are not real defects at all, but we construe them wrongly through our ignorance of their motives says Teresa of Avila . The gospel is for the salvation of the world, and we are sometimes in danger of locking ourselves inside the rescue-shop and plundering the stock of blessings for the sole purpose of spiritual self-gratification, while millions stream empty- handed past the closed doors into eternal darkness, hearing the joyful sounds and seeing the advertisements, but never being given a chance to test the goods says Graham Kendrick; Read whatever chapter of scripture you will, and be ever so delighted with it - yet it will leave you as poor, as empty and unchanged as it found you unless it has turned you wholly and solely to the Spirit of God, and brought you into full union with and dependence upon him, William Law.

There is, or ought to be, with us no such thing as small mercies; all are great, because the least are undeserved.
