Mother Sea

You roll and crest,
And wash the shore,
Yet far away
You give a mighty roar.
You feed the world,
Ever moving, rising then to sink.
Restless, you quench our thirst.
Yet from you, we can not drink.
You house mountains and valleys.
In you, rivers flow.
Life abounds, large and small,
Yes, in you plants grow.
Man empties his waste in you,
And as endless as you be,
Unseen scars are left
To mar our briny sea.
Oh, it may sink from view,
And in time it is lost,
But man seldom wonders
Exactly what the cost.
The sea is blue in places,
Other places it is green.
But wherever you are privileged to see the sea,
Youre looking at a queen.
