The Gift Of Childhood

Once we had a childhood,
Seems so long ago.
Those days were filled with sunshine.
Our young age made it so.
Then the years bring understanding,
We learn why clouds appear.
We learn of grief and sorrow,
And what makes life so dear.
Our children deserve their childhood
And the innocence that it gives,
Where everything is fun and games,
And fantasy still lives.
Where butterflys are a wonder,
And it's fun running in the rain.
A fall and a scratch,
Why does it hurt and pain?
But it doesn't hurt for long,
Everyone gets a few.
Where a puppy is a best friend,
And all of life is new.
