Shadow

I have a constant companion,
A friend without compare.
Devotion is a part of her,
A love only we shall share.
Nothing is ever asked from her
But to be at my side,
To go thru life together,
She wants to share the ride.
My dog is known as Shadow
And she is black as she can be,
But those big brown eyes
Are difficult not to see.
I guess there is something
That I really must confess.
She also loves the world
And everyone, I should guess.
Do you know  many people
As you cast your thoughts around,
That can stand up to that portrayal
On any type of ground?
If you find a friend as I have,
That will share more love than she,
Then youve found yourself a treasure
Much deeper than the sea.

Beginning the Day

Its six oclock in the morning,
I wake all of a sudden in bliss.
My dog wants her breakfast,
So I get a loving kiss.
Now how do you say no
To two big brown eyes of love?
Ok, ok, Im coming,
As my dog gives me a shove.
Every nuzzle and sound, she talking,
She knows love is a two way street.
So Im up and yawning,
I submit in humble defeat.
The routine we know well,
She leads the way with zest,
Then sits by her dish,
Waiting for me to do the rest.
It doesnt take long,
Manners aside, the food disappears.
Shes now at the door,
Wants to go out, it appears.
My Black Lab, my love,
Never barks, but she greets,
Tail waging with joy,
All that she meets.

My Best Friend

So many words have been written
About who is man's best friend,
And with all the friends I have,
It's my dog that wins in the end.
This isn't competition, this situation,
With my family and those that I care.
It's more of a tribute to someone
That's so loyal and fair.
In good times and bad
She's right at my side,
As we walk through life together,
Both of us beaming with pride.
At night she sleeps beside the bed.
In the morning I wake with a kiss.
She's saying to me, I believe,
Lets start another day of bliss.
