Otis Tarver
Otis Tarver had been an active Precinct Chair and Election Judge for the Dallas County Democratic Party for several years. We aren't sure exactly how many because our records don't go back before the 1990's, but it was a long time at a thankless job which he did very well and with a ready joy. His efforts and his smile will be sorely missed. On February 15, 2001, the Country Creek Condominiums dedicated the Otis Tarver Meeting Room in his honor.
From the Memorial Service (Dec. 30, 2000):
Mr. Otis Tarver was born in Birmingham, Alabama on May 9, 1950 to Oscar and Stella S. Tarver. He answered the Master's call on December 19, 2000 at his home in Dallas.
Otis accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and was baptized at First Baptist Church Mountain Park under the pastorship of Reverend B. G. King (deceased). He later moved to Dallas, Texas and united with Concord Missionary Baptist Church where Dr. E. K. Bailey is Senior Pastor.
Otis was educated in the Birmingham City School System. He graduated from G. W. Carver High School in 1968 and from Tuskegee Institute, Tuskegee, alabama in 1972, where he was a 1st Lieutenant in the R.O.T.C. He then enlisted in the United States AirForce and served his country honorably until his discharge as Captain in 1973.
Otis was a Realtor for Century 21 Galloway-Herron and later joined the City of Dallas Housing Department where he remained for 20 years. At retirement he rejoined Century 21 Galloway-Herron where he worked faithfully until death.
Otis was affiliated with the Dallas County Democratic Party, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Board member for Country Creek Condominiums Association, and Tuskegee University National Alumni Association.
Otis leaves a loving mother, Stella A. Tarver of Birmingham, Alabama; father, Oscar Tarver, Sr. of Detroit, Michigan; brother, Oscar (Helen) Tarver, Jr. of Birmingham, Alabama; half-brothers, Jerome, Lewis, Bernard and Stanley Tarver of Detroit, Michigan and Frederick Tarver III; uncles, L. H. (Doris) shipp of Birmingham, Alabama and Moses Tarver of Chicage, Illinois; stepson, Vincent DePaul Craig; stepgrandson, Vincent II; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
