Dallas County Democrats
SDEC Candidates:
Nancy Machen
To my fellow Democrats and Senate District 8 Delegates and Alternates:
Hello, my name is Nancy Machen and I'm running for Senate District 8 Committeewoman at our Convention in El Paso. I have been an active member of the Democratic Party, serving as a Precinct Chair and Election Judge for many years. I am a sustaining member of my local party as well as the Democratic Party of Texas. Most recently, I was elected as Collin County 8th Senatorial District Delegation Chair for the state Convention. I have always stood up for the principles that our Party holds dear: equal rights and equal opportunities for ALL Americans, a woman's right to privacy in making reproductive decisions, the separation of church and state, and the right of all Americans to receive a quality education in our public schools.:
I am running for SD 8 Committeewoman because I believe that the Democratic Party of Texas is at a critical point in its history, a point where the dedication and commitment of each and every Democrat will have a bearing on the final outcome. The decision we Democrats must make is whether we are going to continue our backward slide into statewide oblivion OR whether we are going to unite and work HARD to make our Party a force to be reckoned with in Texas once again. I am confident that we will choose the latter option.:
To implement this course of action, I believe that the State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) needs members who are dedicated to empowering the grassroots of our Party, to providing the leadership and example of commitment, hard work and dedication that our Party needs to achieve this goal. For many years, I have demonstrated that I have these qualities through my work in other organizations as well as in the Party.:
As one example, I was one of the founders of Keep Quality in Plano Schools (KQUIPS), a Plano political action committee (PAC). KQUIPS was founded in 1994 to oppose the Radical Right takeover of the Plano Independent School District's (PISD) Board of Trustees. I served as President of KQUIPS for five years. During that time, we raised money to support candidates who were proponents of quality public education and actively opposed the candidacies of incumbents and candidates who demonstrated that they were sympathetic to the Radical Right agenda. Within three years, the PISD's Board of Trustees was restored to rationality and we have worked since then to ensure that it remains that way. I still serve on the KQUIPS' Board.:
Our biggest challenge as Democrats is not just the upcoming November election (which IS vitally important), but how we are going to sustain our momentum and growth going forward. Since the SDEC is the body responsible for providing guidance to the Democratic Party during the time between our statewide Conventions, it is important that we select SDEC representatives carefully.:
If elected, I will do my best to see that our Party maintains its focus on our goals, especially the empowerment of our grassroots members who are the backbone of our Party. If you elect me as your SD 8 Committeewoman, I pledge to you that I will be a dedicated, communicative, and attentive representative for you and your interests, regardless of whether you live in Dallas or in Collin County.:
I ask you for your support. Please elect me as your SD8 Committeewoman.:
Democratically yours,:
Nancy Machen:
