Dallas County Democrats
How To Be A Precinct Chair
This site is an ARCHIVE of the website used
for the Dallas County Democratic Party from 2000 to May of 2002, and which was built by the then Chair Bill Howell. Though some information
here will be relevant through the 2002 elections, other pages here are of interest for
history or research. For the
latest updated news about the Dallas County Democratic Party, see their own website at
www.dallasdemocrats.org.
As a Precinct Chair, your job is to help get out the Democratic vote in your precinct. This helps our entire ticket of Democratic candidates.
How to get out the Democratic vote in your precinct:
- Remind Democrats in your precinct to go vote.
- Keep reminding them until they tell you they have voted.
- If you have more time or help, then remind other favorable voters to go vote.
How to remind people to go vote:
- Call them. Tell them you are the Democratic Precinct Chair and tell them when and where they can vote early and on Election Day. Know the times and be ready to give directions.
- If you have more time or help, then visit them with a flyer or campaign literature. It's best if you stop and talk to them, but even leaving something on the door helps.
- If you have more time or help, then mail to them.
How
to identify the Democrats in your precinct:
-
Get
a list of voters from the Democratic Party office (214-821-8331). The list
includes names, phone numbers and voting history in
primaries. Treat those who vote in Democratic primaries as Democrats.
How
to identify other favorable voters in your
precinct:
-
Call
or visit households where no one voted in either primary.
-
Let
them know you are a Democrat and ask if they usually vote as a Democrat or
Republican.
-
Mark
your list with their response.
How
to get help:
-
Call
the active Democratic voters on your list and ask them to help you split the
work in your precinct.
