Mikell Miner

Mikell Miner, Democratic Precinct Chair of Precinct 1812 in far north Dallas, passed away on September 20, 2001, after a long battle with lung cancer. Information about times of the wake and the funeral this week, both at All Saints Catholic Church, 5231 Meadowcreek, Dallas, are in the obituary below.

MINER, MIKELL: born Nov. 29, 1935 in Minneapolis, MN., and died Sept. 20 in Dallas. She is survived by her husband Richard E. (Dick) Miner, her daughters Petere Miner of Los Altos, CA., Polly Toohey of Thousand Oaks, CA., Sarah Nichols of Dallas, and Rebecca Gray of Richardson, her son Richard A. Miner of Newbury Park, CA., and her 10 grandchildren.

Mikell's strong spirit will be missed by the many who loved her. She cared deeply about political issues and encouraged women to continue their educations as she did. After raising 5 children she earned her masters degree in sociology from UTD in 1992.

She was very active in the community, serving as a Democratic Precinct Chair for 23 years and on the UTD Alumni Board. She also helped husband Dick establish REM Advertising. She was quick to volunteer, always striving to help others. A survivor of breast cancer, she devoted time to the Guardian Angels and Common Cares Cancer Foundation. She also tutored children in the RISD.

A vigil will be held at All Saints Catholic Church on Sept 27th at 7:30p.m. and a Funeral Mass at All Saints on Sept. 28th at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Common Cares Cancer Foundation, 11661 Preston Rd., #154, Dallas, TX., 75230.
