Dallas County Democrats
Gene Kelly For U.S. Senate 2000
Several people have asked us about Gene Kelly, the
2000 Democratic nominee for U.S. Senator. You haven't
heard anything from him because he has no money.
I voted for him with no reservations against Kay
Bailey Hutchison. He's right on the issues, and if he
does win a surprise victory, his voting record will
be one Democrats will be proud of.
The bottom line: go right ahead and just vote a
STRAIGHT DEMOCRATIC TICKET. It's fast,
easy, and you won't be going wrong on any candidate,
including this race.
--Bill Howell, Dallas County Democratic Chair
Here is a letter our candidate has sent out with his
position on some of the hot issues of this election year:
Gene Kelly
Democratic candidate for US Senator
Universal City, Texas
Thank you for your interest in my candidacy. I ask for your support.
If I am privileged to become your Senator, I will fight for the
interest of the working eople of Texas and their families and not for
the self interest of big business and their cronies. We live in the
most
prosperous economy on earth but its rewards and benefits are not
being fairly shared. Together with my like-minded Democratic
fellow Senators I intend to ensure that:
1. Social Security funds are used solely to protect the system now and
in the future.
2. Medicare is strengthened so as to provide improved services to
include prescription drugs and long term care.
3. Health care is made available to all without regard to income.
4. Educational opportunities are made available to all without regard
to race, sex, or personal wealth, that our schools are made secure and
conducive to learning, and that our teachers are adequately trained and
paid and permitted to teach in classrooms, not stadiums.
5. Our military, economic and industrial strength remains credible,
strong, and sufficient to protect our national interests both at home
and abroad.
6. The minimum wage becomes a livable wage now not tomorrow.
7. All Texans are afforded equal dignity, equal respect and equal
opportunity without discrimination.
I have spent some 30 years in the military service of my country in
peace and in war (starting in World War II), rising from Private to
Colonel. I am a trained leader, manager and negotiator who knows
how to get the job done. I've been married for better than 43 years
and have four grown children. If elected I will pursue no interests
other than those of the country-loving people of this great state.
Thank you again.
Gene Kelly
