Dallas County Democrats
Party History
We really need a good on-line summary of the history of the Democratic Party at all levels. Unfortunately there does not yet seem to be one. If you know of one, or are interested in helping put one together, please email us. (It would be especially fun to have one about the history of the Democratic Party here in Dallas County!) Until better ones are produced, we can only point you to these sketchy, flawed, and sometimes strangely written links.
The Democratic National Committee has put up three pieces. First is what they call a history. This is a short brag or editorial about some highlights of party history. Next they have a long list of what they call Landmark Dates in party history. There is much that is missing, some inaccuracies or at least misleading comments, and some things which really don't belong in such a list, but it's a start. Finally they have a quick useful history of the donkey as a party symbol. This one is pretty good. Read all these at www.democrats.org/about/.
The Texas State Historical Association, in the Handbook Of Texas Online, has a history of the Democratic Party in Texas, apparently compiled by Nancy Beck Young. This is long and detailed. It also has (in my opinion) many flaws as far as point of view or interpretation of the facts. But it is a strong start that someone could build on. Read it here.
