Indigo Skate Camp Ethos

" let skateboarding take you places .. .."
The camp is to be found within a zulu village deep in the Valley of 1000 Hills. The youth in the valley have been awarded skateboards and only through interaction with skateboarders such as yourself will they learn to ride.
The Amazulu skaters are awaiting your arrival and will welcome you into their lifestyle. From day one there is an intense interest in one another's diverse cultures and much knowledge is naturally shared.
Mission
Uniting people with the
inspiration and upliftment of skateboarding
Vision
To provide a meeting place where we can join in our common purpose and be
presented opportunities to develop and discover our skills.
Values
To experience good times with friends in a healthy environment, encouraging
you to make the most of your abilities. Skate camp is a time to cultivate your
development and perfect your art. Awareness and knowledge of self is stimulated
through physical activities like skateboarding. Centeredness and peace of mind
is experienced by harmonising in the moment with movement.
History
While travelling overland from Canada to Argentina, I experienced warm hospitality
and friendship from fellow boardriders. I then had an intuitive vision to build
a village for boardriders. A place where one could always be sure to meet like
minded people who live to ride.
Now
I have returned to my birthplace and it's time to realise a dream. On the North
Coast we got it all - sunshine, Wave House skatepark, good surf and a strong
traditional African culture. All the elements are here for the location of a
permanent skate camp.
Starting point
Before we get our permanent camp we are running ' pilot camps " to get
a feel for what unifies us and what activities get us stoked.
Where to
Our permanent skate camp will be an outdoor experience with easy access to the
joy rides we are in search of. Living in balance with nature, we will establish
a traditional Zulu village for boardriders. Balancing ancient knowledge and
customs with our progresive city lifestyle. The ' bush 'Camp will have a true
African feel to take us back to our roots.
Productivity
The camp will be a productive farm and skill development complex for the community.
It will be a learning centre for all. Employing and empowering traditional Zulu's
and dedicated skateboarders. It will be a training facility for pro skate teams
from overseas and a home for South African boardriders.
Expect
A programme to accommodate
your individual needs. Camps running all year for beginners to pro's. Expert
guidance and instruction from South Africa's best skateboarders and skate teams.
International pro skateboarders will join us for camps throughout the year.
Not just skateboarding
We will open your mind up to other alternative lifestyle sports, adrenaline
activities and relaxation techniques. Because skateboarding is about having
control of the mind and then the body will follow.

Director- Dallas Oberholzer
Like many dreams in skateboarding,
this skate camp is becoming reality through visualising and the power of intent.
I grew up skateboarding in the streets of JHB. No one could understand why we
skated all day, even my headmaster would cane me for missing rugby practice
because I chose to skate. There was no hope of making a career out of skating
and we were said to be wasting our time. Well we followed our hearts and continue
to live in skateboarding.
The best step forward was to build a halfpipe in a friend's back yard and from
then on it was total commitment. In the early 90's there was a huge skate scene
and we were travelling all over the country to skate in national contests. After
my studies I headed overseas to skate in the Slam City Jam in Vancouver and
from there I travelled overland to Argentina.
I am so grateful as skating has given me a reason to travel and experience so
much. Skating in the European World Cup- 2000/ 2001, the X- Games in Australia
and events in Brazil, Peru and home have provided a wealth of knowledge.
It is all in the belief of yourself and acquiring techniques to liberate your
abilities. This has inspired me to search the world over for knowledge of self
and ancient ways of perfecting ones art form.
I have always lived to skate and it is only true to live now to support skateboarding
and skaters. South Africa has a skate camp- an opportunity for you
Randal
White
Head Coach
Growing up in Durban and with 16 years
of skating experience Randal is most valued. Every skater has the upmost respect
for this style master with his consistency of tearing up the streets.
His patience and level headed attitude make him a great teacher and role model
for all. Randal has a big bag of street tricks, he had 360 flips down before
anyone was close. Randal enjoys the concrete at Wave House and is inspired to
skate till he drops. Randal is stoked on the potential of Indigo Skate Camp
as it is a way to reach out to the next generation
