We’ve Moved!
Yes, once again, we have changed our location. The difference this time is that we own the house we live in now! That’s right, we have finally bought a house. Knowing that we would likely be in Salt Lake City for several years, it was better for us to buy a house than to rent. Our new home is in the western side of the town, and is just a walk away from the location of the next Bed Bath & Beyond (to be opened in September), so it is very handy.
This is a 4-bedroom, 2-bath, 2-story split-level house, with over 2,500 square feet, on almost a third of an acre. We plan on using one of the bedrooms as an office, and one as a schoolroom and craft room. The house has sliding glass windows leading to a deck off of the dining room, a sunken barbecue area outside, garden areas, a big shed, huge picture windows in the living room, cathedral ceilings, and a fireplace. There is a huge swingset/playhouse in the yard, with two swings, a slide, a sandbox, a 2-story playhouse, a tire swing, and hanging rings. (When Rio first saw it, he said, "Look—a park!")
We are sad to give up our place in the hills. (We cannot see the whole city from our window in the new place as we can here.) But it will be a good place for us for a few years. We are eager to get a lot of good mail to welcome us, so please write to:

Jerry, Suzanne, or Rio Dallapè

The Rio Report…  Rio has potty-trained himself. He had enjoyed wearing underwear for many months, and would willingly "go" when invited, but we hadn’t planned on training him for quite a while. Well, he apparently didn’t feel like waiting that long, so he just started doing it by himself, with no help. In fact, half the time we don’t even realize that he is doing it—he rarely asks for assistance.
Rio is getting into arts lately. He has always liked to scribble, but he has been expanding his artistic repertoire. He likes to staple and glue things to paper, has recently discovered sticker books, and enjoys using paints. (His paintings all have interesting titles like "Ants Eating a Pop-Tart".) He also learned to embroider. He and Suzanne were sorting out her sewing box, and Rio asked what the embroidery hoop was for. Suzanne got a needle and thread, showed him what to do, and he went right to work. He just loves it. He even did a picture in black thread that he says is Darth Vader! In the future, he is looking forward to learning how to sew.
Rio is becoming quite the little scholar. He is mad about books—twice a week we go to the library and get Rio 10 books. (This is more for the benefit of his parents, who are tired of his current collection!) He always looks forward to returning the books and getting a new batch.

Eating at a Restaurant
By Rio

Go to a restaurant called Hometown Buffet. Rio ate butter, some smashed potatoes, some baby corn, some macaroni. Rio ate a ham sandwich. Rio asked a guy if he could get some ham. We got some bread and meat and put some meat on it and eat a ham sandwich. That’s what the pig eated.1 Rio drinked some tickly water.2 Some soup. It was broccoli and it had cheese in it. Rio eat ice cream. Mummy bring Rio some ice cream. Rio NOT ate buttered squash.
THE END

[NOTES: 1. Rio is referring to "The Pig and the Ham Sandwich," a story that Jerry often tells him. 2. "Tickly water" is seltzer.]
