| On Saturday, January 24th, I discover that Creamy is a she instead of a he. She has come to my front dog yard about 7:00PM, and causes pandemonium. Then I see that Bubblegum is with her. Soon I see another dog, the reddish pup. He hikes his leg. The two males follow Creamy around and it looks like more puppies in the making soon. It's going to be in single digits tonight. I hear puppies crying across the yard. Haven't seen anyone home over there all day. They came in last night about 11:30, but I don't know if they stayed. Sunday, the 25th, I hear dogs barking around 1:00. The Mrs. is feeding. Good grief! Star and Bubblegum are both in Star's pen! On tethers! She must have put him in there when she found him loose. I wonder how long he's been there. Neither dog can get to the dog box. A little later, I see the Mrs. leaning over the fence trying to get to the rope. Too bad there's no gate. It's snowing. Star will be wet. I wonder if she slept on the ground last night. It was 12 degrees when I went to bed. Things quiet down. I think they have gone. Now the Red Dog is loose in the front yard with Creamy. He has escaped from the Yorkie pen. Brownie is going ballistic and it looks like a fight is brewing. I see a black and tan on the far side of the pens, standing on top of something. I don't know who it is. A little later, I see a reddish dog over there, too. Must be the one I saw last night with Creamy and Bubblegum. Soon there is a black and tan dog loose in the yard, and it isn't Bubblegum. I walk down the road with my camera, but don't take any pictures. It's too cold to be out there, and I just want to get back home. The dogs come at me, but I claim my space and they back off. I'm not home long before I see the neighbor's are back. They're in a car I haven't seen before. The Mr. is in the car waiting, with the motor running. The car is facing Star's pen, and I see that she and Bubblegum are still together and unable to get to the box. They're all excited and getting more tangled up. I see the Mrs. watering dogs, tossing water through the fences so that I wonder how much actually lands in the bowl. It looks like the water containers are full of ice. The next time I see her, she is getting dog food out of the trunk and then she is pulling a cooler on wheels that is full of food. She scoops up two handfuls of food and tosses it over the fence for Brownie. He's looking all over for it. Takes a long time to find it all. She uses a can at the next pen, that was hanging on a post, and flings food onto the ground for tbe reddish pup. Then she's on to Chloe's box where she dumps food on the ground. Yellow Dog eats on top of his box, but can't get up there today. He usually sleeps up there, when it isn't too cold or wet, but he was sleeping in the snow earlier today. The Mrs. fools with his cable, and I see him on the box then. She goes around the backside of the pens to feed the spotted dogs, and whoever else is there. The black and tan, I'll call him Shorty, tries to eat Chloe's food. He gets dragged back to wherever he escaped from. Creamy is wondering when she'll get to eat. Finally the Mrs. goes to the back yard and coaxes Red Dog back into the Yorkie pen, throws some food on the ground, and tosses water through the fence. She isn't gone five minutes before he is back in the front yard. She manages to get him back in later. Star and Bubblegum have taken a long time to find all their food. At least they aren't fighting over it. There are yellow plastic jugs all over the pen. Creamy is in front of their pen eating. The Mr. has been sitting there watching all this, not helping at all, and apparently not concerned about two dogs tangled up in a pen and without shelter. He goes into the trailer, and the Mrs. heads for the tool shed with food and water. Then she sits in the car, waiting, doing nothing about those two dogs right in front of her. Finally they drive away, leaving Creamy, the hot chick, running at large, and having done nothing to prevent the males from getting out of their pens again. As soon as they leave, Star and Bubblegum get frisky, taking turns jumping on each other, and I wonder if Star is in heat, too. Later, as it's getting dark, and getting mighty cold, I see the two dogs are still together, and still without shelter. No sign of the neighbors when I go to bed at 11:30. All is quiet until the middle of the night, when I hear someone in distress, joined a few seconds later by others. I cover my head and try not to hear. It's too heartbreaking. |
