In the name of god Amen, I John William Sign of the county of
Shenandoah and state of Virginia, being of sound mind and memory,
thanks be almighty god for the same, but calling to mind the
uncertainty of this mortal life, knowing it is appointed for all
men to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament.
First, I recommend my soul to almighty god who gave it, hoping
through the merits of our blessed redeemer Jesus Christ to meet with
a Joyfull resurrection and my body to be decently buried at the
descretion of my executor herein after named, as to what worldly
goods it has pleased god to bless me with I dispose of in the
following manner to wit, In premiss, It is my will and desire that
my funeral expenses and just debts be first paid.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved daughter Elizabeth
Sign one cow one heifer three years old together with their increase,
one bed and furniture, one spinning wheel one chest one large iron
oven, two ewes, six pewter plates and two large pewter dishes, one
of which is a soupe dish, to her & her heirs forever.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Henry Sign one
mair which he purchased of me me and paid for to him and his heirs
for ever.
Item, I give and bequeath unto my beloved son Peter Sign one
horse and saddle which he purchased of me and paid for to him and
his heirs forever.
Item, I lend to my beloved wife Mary Sign all my estate except
what I have all ready bequeathed during her natural life and after
her decease, it is my will and desire that it may be equally divided
between all my children to wit, Adam, Catharine, John, Mary, Anne,
Catharine Junior, Elizabeth, Henry, and Peter to them and their heirs
forever.
Lastly, I do hereby ordain, constitute and appoint my beloved
son Adam Sign executor of this my last will and testament hereby
making and disannulling all other wills heretofore made by me. In
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty
fourth day of April one thousand seven hundred and eighty nine.

At a court held for the county of Shenandoah on Monday the 13th day
of April 1801, this last will and testament of John William Sign
dec'd was exhibited to the court and proved by the oaths of William
Kenneday and Philip Williams witnesses thereunto and ordered to be
recorded and on motion of Adam Sign the executor therein named who
made oath & gave bond & security according to law, a probate thereof
in due form is granted him.
