| Lo, the spoilers abound! For those of you who have seen all of Esca, or who just don't care. |
| Ah yes. The spoilers. Most of you have come here to check out his third and fourth appearances, while some of you either know what happens as of episode 14, or just don't really care about knowing the spoilers ahead of time. Come on, it's a guilty pleasure! Admit it. It's how I found out about Dilandau, to be honest with you. ((Well...that's mostly true. But that's another story altogether.)) Episode 14: 'Dangerous Wounds' This episode has two of the most infamous scenes in all of Escaflowne, mainly surpassed by the thing with Van's wings and Dilandau's, erm, "problem." You know what scenes I'm referring to. The first one? The massacre. Van goes into a bit of a rage and manages to kill all 12 of the remaining DragonSlayers. Yes, I said "12" and yes, I can count. But of the original 15, Migel was dead already ((leaving 14)), and two of them died during the battle in Freid ((that's 12 left)). Anyhow, Van kills all 12 of the DragonSlayers that have managed to survive everything thus far. And it is not a pretty thing. The rather, erm, 'interesting' deaths involved Gatti being completely impaled while still within the guymelef and Guimel being, um, stepped upon, also while in his guymelef. ((That has to be one of the most humbling ways to die. Try explaining being stepped on at the gate to the netherworld.)) And our Viole-san? Gratefully, the faithful Viole fans are spared seeing him die. Viole's Third Appearance - 'Protection' scene, Episode 14 Viole makes his third appearance apparently from the hereafter, during the second rather infamous scene in this episode. Proving that even the fans of little-known guys that are really, really dead now still get fanservice. His third appearance is during the scene right before Van is about to kill Dilandau. The DragonSlayers rally and protect Dilandau even though Van just killed them all, basically causing Van to realize what Haley Joel "I See Dead People" Osmont felt like. Naturally, Dilandau doesn't know what the heck is going on, but the DragonSlayers are there yet the same. To be frank, I still haven't found Viole in this scene, but Renniva assures me that yes, he is there. I'll have to review this scene again to see if I can see this. Viole's Fourth and Final Appearance - Gateway to the Netherworld This is one of those things that you either have to: a - look really fast. b - know where to look. c - have hours to do this over and over. Preferably, you'd have d - all of the above. It took me five tries to locate Viole's fourth appearance, and I knew what I was trying to find and had about three hours in which to find it. And I found it. In Episode 15 (('Paradise Lost')), Van and Hitomi are both in the *cough* lovely location of limbo, before the gateway to the netherworld. Hitomi was trying to find Van to bring him back to 'The Land of the Living' ((literally)), and she was running through a massive crowd of dead, zombi-esque people. There is a close-up shot of three of the DragonSlayers ((Shesta, Gatti, and Dalet, if I am not mistaken)) and then it cuts back to Van walking along and Hitomi running after him. Let the scene roll for about five seconds. When it cuts to Van walking, before Hitomi tries to grab him, you can see three of the DragonSlayers. Guimel, then one that looks suspiciously like Ryuon ((he is in the series, babe!)), and if you look quick enough, above them ((to their right, above them on the screen)) you can see a split second's glimpse of Viole. And thus Viole exits the series. He entered as "That Random Guy...With The Hair" and he exits as...well, he exits as "That Random Dead Guy...With The Hair." Oh well. We still love him. And hey...there's always the rewind button. Back to Forgotten Child |
