Harley Davidson Dyna Super-Glide

April 2002

I bought this 2002 Harley FXD Super Glide in March and included several modifications as part of the deal.  It was going to take a few weeks for the parts to come in and I was going to be gone on a trip with the Lake Erie anyway so we agreed that I would ride it in stock condition until it was time for me to leave.

I dropped the bike off in April to have a Vance & Hines 2 into 1 Pro-pipe installed along with a Screamin' Eagle jet-kit and a K&N turbo-filter.  The dealer will also lower the front forks one inch.

June 3rd 2002

When I returned to the island and picked up the bike, its whole attitude had changed.  I was very impressed with the increased performance but still had more work to do.  I didn't like having the battery exposed so I purchased and installed a chrome battery cover.

After about a week I bought a bike jack to install the 11 inch Progressive shocks that would lower the bike an inch and a half in the rear and give the Super-Glide a Low Rider stance.  A neighbor came over and helped me get the shocks on the bike.  Ryan and I were a little beside ourselves when we couldn't get the jack out from under the bike.  I guess I'll have to be careful going over speed bumps!

What a difference the shocks made!  All that is left now is to install the Super Sport Tachometer and phase one will be complete.

October 2002
A few months have passed and I still have to install the tachometer. Yeah, it's taking longer than I had planned.  My ship's schedule prevents me from spending quality time with my family much less have time to work on the bike or truck.  When I get more time I'll install the tachometer and then start working on the next modification . . . whatever that may be.

In the meantime, I have installed a backrest so Liz can go on rides with me.  The wish list has grown quite a bit and before I get crazy, I'm going to let the holidays pass us by.  I figure I'll get a Badlander seat and drag bars pretty soon though.

More later . . .

November 2002

I found a leather HD Badlander seat on eBay at a great price and installed it on the bike without the backrest.  I also purchased and installed a set of 4" pullbacks and a drag bar with Kuryakyn Iso hand grips.

This modification caused the turn markers to hit the tank so before I dented it, I moved them to the front forks but had to leave the stock mirrors on the bike for the time being.  I'll get that corrected as soon as possible.

I still haven't installed the tachometer but it is on my list of things to do.

January 2003

We made it through the holidays but just barely.  I ordered a set of new mirrors to get rid of the bug-eye look that the stock mirrors gave to the drag bars.  The new mirrors are from Arlen Ness and have a sapphire blue tint to them.  They look great in the catalog and I can't wait to see them on the bike.

Here is a pic of the new Arlen Ness mirrors mounted on the bike.  They don't look so much like bug eyes anymore and I can actually see behind me, the stock mirrors were too close together on the drag bars and all I could see was my shoulder blades, not very safe.  I guess the next thing to do will be to get a set of mags or give it a paint job.

Here is a pic of me and the bike at Sand Island Park with Diamond Head and Waikiki in the background.  It was really overcast so the picture isn't that good, maybe I'll try again in a few weeks.

Another overcast pic showing the other side of the bike.

This picture was taken just before Memorial Day not far from Sandy Beach on the Northeastern corner of Oahu. You may be able to tell that a few more changes have been made but they are subtle. The headlamp trim ring is larger than before and there are several other small details that I've added.

Another pic of the bike. Once again I blew an otherwise awesome picture because I was paying attention to the scene and not the light.

Of course, these pictures are also outdated because I added even more after these pictures were taken.

I get stopped all the time and asked how I got the look of a dragster. I just smile and say... A lot of time and hard work. :D

More later . . .
