The Battle of King's Mountain where American frontiersmen defeated British militia Oct. 7, 1780

After the British victory at Camden, a few hundred American loyalists joined with the British militia, hoping to bring the war to an end. On Oct. 7, 1780, all 900 were trapped at the top of King's Mountain just south of the North Carolina border by 900 frontiersmen.

At the next major battle  March 15, 1781, at Guilford Courthouse near Greensboro, North Carolina, 2000 British troops under Cornwallis met an American force almost twice that number.  At the end of three hours there were so many casualties on both sides that the fighting stopped, with neither side being able to claim victory.
