Tokodede’s Language and Culture Researches

1. Introduction

1.1. Tokodede’s Language and Culture

After we finished the first project, it is clear to us that culture becomes an important thing that should be considered. Cultures reflected the people life and provide awareness to know who they are. Culture as mirror to make people understand why they existing as a human being. It is also remain the people to consider, respect and love their own culture.

Tokodede’s people is one of some ethnics in East Timor that has its own culture. With language, traditional behavior, mythology, music, law and other social life as an identification to explain how the Tokodede people life in the past. So, it’s important to remain again the people. Through research and publication we intend to gather again the Tokodede’s culture. 

We hope that this research and publication will be benefit and usefull for education history and culture. More than it, these data and facts can be literacy for everybody that cares with culture issues. Hopefully, it will be inspiration for the young generation to progress their culture especially in all areas in East Timor.

1.2. Lekede’e Study Group (LSG)

Lekede’e Study Group (LSG) founded at uma lisan Besilau Baulelo Likisá, in February 2006.  LGS was founded base on objective to research and survive the Tokodede’s culture in Liquica. Therefore, the original culture can be conserve. Another objective is to provide a contribution in culture areas, especially East Timor culture that has been losing a lot of history during several hundred years. LGS will provide attention in: tradition life, language, history and mythology, traditional law, Uma lulik and other traditional behaviour that still surviving until today.

2. Objective

• To research all areas in Tokodede culture
• To complete the Tokodede culture literacy
• As local literacy for national culture and education

3. Action Plan

3.1. Researches’ Focus

The research will focus on Tokodede’s language and culture. We plan to concentrate in 5 main topics that have a relation with Tokodede’s culture and language. These topics such:

• Tokodede’s Mythology and Legend
• Uma Lisan  in Tokodede’s community ( around 23 villages )
• Tokodede’s Traditional Poem
• Traditional law in Tokodede’s practices
• A history of Tokodede’s People
• Tokodede’s Ritual ( Birth, marriage, death, etch )

3.3. Staffs

LSG will recruit 1 finance and administration staff and 2 field staffs that focuses on field researches. They will support the LSG member in field research and management.

4. Project duration

This project will take 1 year ( refer to the project schedule )

5.  Interim and annual Reports

LSG will submitted the interim and final report include finance report during six to a year (August 2006 – January  - July 2007). This report will submitted by independent auditor.
