In 1855 he bought 160 acres in Walnut Twp., which he sold and moved to KS, where he farmed 32- acres for 6 years. He returned to Polk Co., and bought 240acres from his father in Walnut Twp., where he was farming in 1870, 1880, and 1885. In 1889 he owned a total of 800 acres, divided into 4 farms. He retired from farming and built a home at 1065, 22nd. Street, Des Moines, where he was living with his two daughters, Myrtle and Cora in 1900. In 1910 he was widower living along in Des Moines. He also owned Grimes, Polk Co. He was a Mason and member of the Christian Church. He left a farm valued at $50,000 to the Home for the Aged in Des Moines. His will was filed in Polk Co. 2 May 1911. Ward, Tulsa, Tulsa Co., OK, where he is listed as a lawyer. In 1920, he is rooming in the 1st. Ward of Des Moines, with Carl Simpson, and is a lawyer. Minnie is not present, and may have died in OK.
