166 Samuel TEMPLIN, b. c1741, Chester Co., PA, , d. bet. 2 Jan and 28 Feb 1816, Frederick Co., MD, m. (166) _______?, who died prior to 1771, when he m. 2nd., (166/2) Hanna JACOBS. Some researchers have claimed that Samuel TEMPLIN was the son of Richard TEMPLIN of Chester Co., PA. There is no evidence to support that claim. In early Frederick Co., MD records, the name is sometimes spelled, DEMPLING. He evidently settled c1771, when bought 300 acres of land from Philip Farver on 21 Jul 1772, in or near to Middletown in Frederick Co., where the family was active in the Zion Lutheran Church, where Samuel and Hannah witnessed the marriage. of Rebecca to Richard RIDGLEY, and in 1783 they sponsored the baptism of Sarah RIDGELY d/o Richard and Rebecca. According to the church records they must have been there by 1761, when the first child was born. In 1798 Frederick Co., Land Assessments show he owned 3 parcels of land totaling 556 acres. In 1790 Samuel had 4 males over 16, 2males under 16, and 5 females in the household; In 1800 there was 1 male 10 to 16, 1 male over 45, 2 females 0 to 10, 2 females 16 to 26, and 3 slaves. In 1791 he was issued a warrant for 449 acres of land by the state of Maryland in Frederick Co. There are a number of land dealings in Frederick Co., selling land to Martin Keplinger in 1797, in 1813 to Samuel POWELL, his son-in-law, in 1813 and 1815, to son Richard TEMPLIN, on 19 Dec 1812, to Leonard YEAST, another son-in-law.
