57.1-Amos NICHOLS, b. 5 Nov 1801, Berkeley Co., VA, d. 2 Jul ___, Seneca Co., OH, m. 3 Sep 1827, Berkeley Co., Mary RINEBERGER, b. 7 Mar 1799, prob. Berkeley Co., d. 20 Aug 1879, Seneca Co., OH. Sometime after their marriage in 1827, they migrated to OH. They possibly moved to another county prior to Seneca Co., but at least after 1860, they were in Seneca. There is an Amos NICHOLS in Knox Co., OH in 1840. On 12 Dec 1831, Amos, sold land on Back Creek, Berkeley Co., VA, he had received from his father Robert, to John C. MILLER, his step-father. This sale took place after the move to OH. In the census records, Amos is listed as a laborer, and probably lived in Tiffin most of his life. An A. NICHOLS is listed as a town marshal in Tiffin in 1852. It is not known if this is Amos Sr or Jr. Amos and Mary are buried in Greenlawn Cemetery, in Seneca Co. In the 1850 census, a Catherine Soapher, 18, b. VA, is residing in the home. Possibly a domestic servant or a relative of Mary NICHOLS. 57.1a-Robert NICHOLS, b.1818, m. Jane BRANDEBERRY. . He came at the age of 7 to Seneca Co., OH, with his father, Amos NICHOLS. Robert is listed as a laborer in the 1850 census. He served at the Tiffin Town Marshall and Jailer, and was elected sheriff age the aige of 25. He was also a mail carrief between Tiffin and Fremont. He was a member of the Order of Odd Fellows. 57.3g1-Emma NICHOLS, b. 7 Uul 1862, d. 1904, m. 12 Aug 1883, Seneca Co., OH, by O. V. M. Chandler, to John J. MARCHA, b. 1862, FRA, d. 1916,s/o Andrew MARCHA (s/o John and Catherine MARCHA). Emma graduated from Heidelberg Collece, and was member of the Memorial Society in Tiffin. John was brewer in FRA, and a farmer in OH. He first come to NY , then to Stark Co., OH. They are buried in Pleasant Union-Dukes Cemetery. (OHSEB2, 3, p514, 5). Child:

57.1b-Amos D. NICHOLS, b. c1833, prob. Seneca Co., OH, m. 10 Sep 1857, by Reuben Good, in Seneca Co., Angeline GANTZ, b. c1838. In the 1860 and 1870 census, they are living with in the same household as Amos Sr. and Mary, his parents. By 1870, they had four children. Sometime c1886, Amos moved to Chicago. 57.1c-John H. NICHOLS, b. c1838, d. 1902, m. 14 May 1867, by J. M. Young, JP, Seneca Co., Mary M. KAESTER, b. c1849. No other information at this time (2004). The marriage is questionable. The cemetery records has John H. NICHOLS buried beside Magdalena NICHOLS. Her name may have been Mary Magdalena KAESTER. A John NICHOLS was a member of the Seneca Sharpshooters, organized in Apr 1861. J. H. NICHOLS served full term in the Civil War. (OHSEB2,OHSEB3p335,361) One known child from cemetery records:

57.2-Susan NICHOLS, b. c1802, was probably named for one of her grandmothers; either Susannah LIGHT KAIN MYERS or Susan Nichols. She appears in the 1850 census with her mother, Mary MILLER and step-father, John C. MILLER, in Little Georgetown, Berkeley Co., VA. She was in her 48th. year by then, and not married. No grave for Susan has been found in Berkeley Co. (to date). ***** Susan in OH????
57.3-Daniel K. NICHOLS, b. c1803, Berkeley Co., VA, d. c1858, Seneca Co., OH, m. 25 Sep 1831, Berkeley Co., Susan RHINEBERGBER, b. c1811, prob. in Berkeley Co. Daniel was a miller by trade. He also sold his land on Back Creek, Berkeley Co., to John C. MILLER, his step-father. Daniel and Susan also migrated to OH, probably Sandusky Co., where they appear in the 1850 census, but may have been in another county prior to 1850. There is a Daniel NICHOLS in Erie Co. OH in 1840. They moved to Seneca Co., after 1850, where Daniel died and filed a will. Susan and the children appear in the Seneca Co., 1860 census. (OHAS1,OHSE2,OHSEB1,WVBE1,4) Children:

57.3g-Robert NICHOLS, b. c1847, prob. Sandusky Co., OH, was living in Tiffin, Seneca Co., in 1880. He may have been married several times. In 1880, his wife is Anne, Ann, or Anna, and may have been Ann R. LUTZ, b. c1847, who he m. 6 Mar 1873. (OHSEB3)
