The Family of William Hamilton MORROW
and Julia Medora WILSON

16.4-William Hamilton MORROW, b. 1 Jan 1837, Summit Point, Jefferson Co., VA, s/o Joseph and Sarah Ellen LOCK MORROW (WVJE12), d. 5 Apr 1900, Louisiana, Pike Co., MO, m. 4 Feb 1864, Kabletown, Jefferson Co., WV, to Julia Medora WILSON, b. 1 Nov 1841, Jefferson Co., d/o Asa & Nancy OFFUTT WILSON, d. 7 Aug 1917, age 76, Hannibal, Marion Co., MO. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John A. SYDNEY. She was the last of 11 children. Her sister Mrs.Louise Miller d. in CA, Jul 20th. 1917, and her brother, William WILSON resided in Louisiana many years. Both are buried in Riverview Cemetery, Louisiana, MO (O2). William was the hero of the family in my grandfather's eyes, and every time we discussed family, his name came up. He knew he had this half uncle that went to MO, but did not know of the other connections. According to the History of Pike County, MO, he went to MO in 1856, and in the 1860 Census, he was a boarding law student with his brother, John James MORROW in Palmyra, MO. Here he read law with the office of Dryden and Lipscomb. He was admitted to the MO bar in 1860. He returned to Jefferson Co., WV, in 1861, where he enlisted in the Confederate Service, Co. A, 12th. Reg., VA Calvary. He saw service at Bull Run, Winchester, Manassas Junction, Antietam, Gettysburg, Fredericksburg, and Petersburg. He was wounded at Petersburg and unable to surrender. He returned to Charles Town, WV, where he surrendered to Maj. Gen. Eagen. He taught private school in Charles Town, then in 1868, returned to MO, settled in Louisiana, where he was in the law practice of Anderson, MORROW, Anderson by 1873. In 1870, he was practicing law in Louisiana , with Ella FOREMAN 6, b. VA, Joseph WILSON 57, b. VA, machinist, Mary WILSON 21, b. VA, and T. A. WILSON 23, b. VA in the household. By 1876, he formed the practice of  MORROW and Gray, with W. O. Gray. He was member of the M. E. Church South, a Master Mason and member of the Perservance Lodge #92, AF & AM, Louisiana. In 1880, in Louisiana, Anne Sweny 30, b. MO, a servant, Harry Sweny 1, b. MO, a servant, Elle FOREMAN, his neice, and Earnest CRUTCHER, a boarder and his future brother-in-law in the home. In 1900, Julia is enumerated with Annie J. Murray. An interesting story surrounds his marriage to Julia WILSON, a the Kabletown Methodist Church in Jefferson Co., WV. They were in the middle of the ceremony, when an aide rushed in and informed the wedding party that a Union troop was nearby. The ceremony was hastily concluded, W. H. rushed out of the church, rode off with his troopers, and never saw his bride until his return from the war. The story appeared in the rededication bulletin of the church c1960. This scene was recreated (or created) in the movie SHENANDOAH, starring James Stewart. W. H. died in 1900, after attending the Democratic Convention in Kansas City, as did his brother, R. W. MORROW (1863-1900) of Charles Town, WV. If they met, it was their final meeting, because by December, R. W. MORROW was also dead. (MONP3, MOPIB1, MOPI4-6, MOPI10-12, O2PI14, MOB1) Children:
