He attended the State Normal School in Millersville, Pa, taught school in Sharpsburg, Beaver Creek, and Rohrersville. He was principal of the Antietam Grammar School for 3 years, studied law, and was admitted to the Washington County Bar in Aug 1897. He was on the list of attorneys in Washington Co., 4 Sep 1897. 198.5h Amelia MONG, b. 1808, Washington Co., MD, m. 7 Jan1839, Washington Co., MD, John CRADDOCK, b. c1793, ENG, the widower of her deceased sister 198.5e, Margaret A. MONG. In Hagerstown in 1830, John CRADDOCK was making Allen's Threshing Machines. Many people in all parts of the country were doing the same, and CRADDOCK claimed they were infringing on his patent. This family migrated to Olge Co., IL bef. 1850. Here John was a miller. In the 1850 census, Timothy Kilgore 20, b. IRE, a laborer, and Elias Malone 20, b PA, a millwright were living in the household. In 1860, Amelia, Margaret A., and Ellen were living in Buffalo Twp., Olge Co. with Benjamin Walking 28, a saloon keeper and his wife Janna? 27, b. CAN. There were two chiildren: Kate Walking 7, and Francis Walking 6. Alson in this home was a Sarah A. MIX b. MD, and a a child Earnest MIX, b. MD. This Sarah must be Amelia's daughter. Margaret, his first wife, is buried in Washiington Co., MD. (BR5, ILCA3, ILOG2, 3, 7, 10MDWAB1, 2, p196, MDWA1) Children:

198.3h1 Sarah A. CRADDOCK, b. c1834, MD, must have m. and had a child before she left MD. In the 1860 census, she and a child, Earnest MIX, age 5, b. MD, are in the home of Benjamin Walking in Buffalo Twp., Ogle Co., IL. Also in the house is Amelia CRADDOCK and some of her sisters. (ILOG3)

198.3h3 John CRADDOCK b. c1842, MD, was a carpenter living in a hotel run by William Haines, in Polo, Ogle Co., IL, in 1870. (ILOG4)

Jan1841, Elkhorn Grove Twp., Carroll Co., IL, s/o Harry and Lucinda (DALTON) SMITH, nat/o Nottingham, Stratford, NH, and NC respectively, who settled in Carroll Co., IL prior to 1841. In 1880 and 1900, Tipton is farming in elkhorn Twp., Carroll Co. Peter Schooler 29, b. PA, a laborer is in the home. Tipton was a Civil War Vet., Co. H, 7th. IL Vol. Cav.
