88.3 Daniel ENTLER, b. 1786, Shepherdstown, d. 5 Apr 1866, Shepherdstown, m. 21 Jan 1809, Jefferson Co., VA, Margaret Hiser WELTZHEIMER, b. 1791, Shepherdstown, d/o Frederick and Catherine  (HEISER) WELTZHEIMER, d. 1 Jan 1866, Shepherdstown. Daniel was a hotel keeper. Daniel ENTLER is buried in the Lutheran Cemetery in Shepherdstown. The ENTLER Hotel on the corner of German and Princess Street, now the Shepherdstown Museum. The building is 200 plus years old, was owned by Shepherd College. The State of WV legislature passed a bill requiring the State Borad of Regents to sell the building to the Shepherdstown Town Council for $1. It was bought and turned over to the Historic Shepherdstown Commission for renovation. It was once used as a dorm by Shepherd College, and later a storage area. On compus it was known as Rumsey Hall. the building was built in 1786 by Philip Adam ENTLER who with his sons established an inn and saloon. In 1859 Daniel was keeping the hotel, with numerous patrons living in his establishment. (LE42, WVJE1, 12,13, 15, WVJEB6, 9)

88.3e Jacob Philip Adam ENTLER, b. 1818, d. 1900, m. Ellen MCELROY, b. 1824 (1833 in 1880 census), d/o Ann MCELROY. In 1850 through 1870, they were living in Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co., VA(WV).  In he home in 1860, are Elizabeth BRISCOE and daughter Ellen M. BRISCOE, 35. There is another female in the house, Nellie M., age 14, a daughter who may not have survived to adulthood. Also, there is a Martha A, age 35. If this is Ellen (Martha may have been her first name), she would have been 13 when the first child Annie W. was born. Of course, the census, which often is the case, may have been wrong. J.P.A. ENTLER, ran the ENTLER Hotel in Shepherdstown until 1872, when it was sold. He then moved his family to Piedmont, WV, where he bought the Simms House and were living in 1880. He was elected to the WV House of Delegates in 1870, and co-prosecutor in Jefferson Co. in 1871-1876. They were members of the Lutheran Church.  They are buried in Elmwood Cem., Shepherdstown.
