Elizabeth may have been a COLE, but that hasn't been established with proof. George COLE of Calvert Co., (Will written 2 Oct 1699, probabed 3 Oct 1700) had a daughter Elizabeth who may been b. c1693. Elizabeth BRISCOE m. 2nd. Nelson Co., KY, Joshua HOBBS, the marriage bonded by Charles Polke. Walter was in Westmoreland Co., PA on 28 Oct 1780, when there appeared a list of Negroes and Mulatto Slaves by sex and age: Males Mudd 36, Roger 36, Tom 65, and Jacob 15; Females Fortymore 70, Phillis 14, Dinah 14, Heager 39, and Esther 9. His will was written 4 Jan 1783, and probated Jun 1785 in Fayette co., PA, names only sons Walter and Stephen, and wife Elizabeth. He must of had holdings in Fayette Co. Elizabeth BRISCOE had 4 tithables, 2 males, 2 females, and 4 slaves over 5, and 3 female slaves in Nelson Co. (date?) On 13 Mar 1797 John HOBBS, Elizabeth's step-son, and son, Stephen BRISCOE executors of her estate were issued an executors bond  in the amount of 2000 pounds, with Joshua HOBBS and William W. 628.5b Cassandra BRISCOE d. c1797, Nelson Co., KY, m. 1st. 28 Feb 1787, Nelson Co., John HOBBS b. 1770, d. 1840, Nelson Co., s/o Joshua and Margaret (SELLMAN?) HOBBS. The marriage bond was provided by Joshua HOBBS on 27 Feb 1787. John HOBBS m. 2nd. Eleanor Abell b. c1775, d. c1850, Nelson Co., stepdaughter of Thomas Polke. Cassandra's mother marrying 2nd. Joshua HOBBS, making her a stepsister of her husband. John was the stepson of Elizabeth BRISCOE HOBBS and was an executor of her will with stepbrother, Stephen BRISCOE. (KYNEB4, 6-7, 9, MDB58 p129)

628.5d Stephen Compton BRISCOE d. 1804, in an Indian outbreak, m. 15 Nov 1799, Nelson Co., KY, Sarah HOBBS, d/o Joshua and Margaret (SELLMAN?) HOBBS, his stepsister. Stephen's mother m. 2nd., Joshua HOBBS. Stephen along with his stepbrother, John HOBBS were executors of Elizabeth BRISCOE HOBBS' will. On 15 Nov 1897, there was an exchange of land between William May, Stephen BRISCOE, and Walter BRISCOE, where William May became entitled to 400 acres on Murray Run Branch of Cox's Creek, part of the Osburn Spriggs settlement in Nelson Co. on 4 Sep 1798, William Brashear vs. Stephen BRISCOE in covenant, when William W. Whitaker paid bail for the defendant. A record of the disposition of this case did not appear in the records. On 13 Dec 1802 William May and wife, Mary, sold to Stephen BRISCOE, 170 acres on Kimberly run Branch of the east fork of  Cox's Creek, land adjacent to Moses Pearson. On 1 Dec 1802, Stephen and Sally BRISCOE sold to Spilsburgy Stone for 255 pounds, 120 acres on Kimbly Run, Nelson Co. On 13 Dec 1802. on 10 Dec 1804, an administrator bond was issued to Sarah BRISCOE for the estate of Stephen BRISCOE, deceased in the amount of $1000, with Joshua HOBBS, the suretor. Stephen's estate was inventoried on 21 Jan 1805 by Michael Campbell, Benjamin Cleaver, and John Houston, total amount $133.25. Sale of his estate on 13 mar 1805 by John Houston bought 9 pounds 9 shillings, all bought by widow Sarah BRISCOE. Wed. 24 Jun 1795.  George BRISCOE'S will dated 9 Feb 1802, probated 9 Jul 1805 names sons, John, George C., Cuthbert, Philip, Samuel, Harrison, Edward; daughter Elizabeth HEDGES; Executor Friends John BRISCOE, James Purvis, son John; witnesses Richard McSherry, George S. Washington, Andrew Rhonemius. George is listed as a land owner in the rent rolls of Berkeley Co., VA, 1774-1781, for 270 acres and 555 acres.  In 1782-1787, George paid tax on 1 pole 11 slaves in Berkeley Co., VA. In the Berkeley Co., VA, Tax Records, George BRISCOE has 1 male 16-20; 8 blacks under 16; 8 blacks under 16; 10 horses, and 21 cattle. There are a number of deeds in Berkeley and Jefferson Co., VA that need to be explored; from Thomas Mason 2 Aug 1777, book 4, p221, Berkeley Co.; George and wife to Richard Evans 17 Jun 1777, Book 4 p190, Berkeley Co.; George and wife to Richard McSherry 14 Aug 1790, Book 11 p662, Berkeley Co. A deed in Jefferson Co. 20 May names some of the children of George when John M. and wife Maria, Cuthbert and wife Elizabeth, George Cole, by John BRISCOE, his attorney, Philip, Samuel, Harrison, and Edward sold 2 tracts of land to William Cameron of Lancaster Co., PA. John's will was written on 16 Jul 1814, and probated 18 Aug 1817, names his wife Moriah, and children, George, Patsy, Edward, and Samuel. On 15 Sep 1817 an executors bond was issued to Harrison BRISCOE, for the estate of John M. BRISCOE dec., in the amount of $20000, with Samuel BRISCOE, Edward BRISCOE, and Philip BRISCOE and Bryan Stone as suretors. On 30 Sep 1817 the personal estate 2as taken by Abner King, Jesse Stone, and Benjamin Stone in the amount ofs $3622.5 including 10 slaves. On 15 Dec 1823 a guardian bond was issued to Stephen BRISCOE as guardian of Patsy BRISCOE, orphan of John M. BRISCOE, in the amount of $2000, with Silas Tichenor as suretor. On 12 Aug 1825 the widow received 1/3 of the land and slaves; Lucy, a slave age 79 considered an encumbrance on the estate with a credit of $87.00; 11 slaves valued at $2745.00 with a net of $2658.00 (deducting the cost of Lucy), the other slaves being Philip, Hanna, Esther, and Lucy; 267 acres to the widow; 1/3 portion to Kindey BRIDWELL who m. Patsy BRISCOE, d/o said dec. John M. BRISCOE. On 4 occasions, 18 Oct 1828, 12 Jan 1829, 9 May 1831, and 5 Jul 1833, Edmund TERRELL (who m. the widow)  ordered an examination  of Bryan Stone, Administrator of John M. BRISCOE'S. On 17 Jan 1820 Harrison BRISCOE was surety in the administrators bond of Edward BRISCOE, and on the same day surety in the guardian bond of Samuel BRISCOE for minor George E. 628.6g Edward BRISCOE d. c1820, m. 1 Oct 1812, by M. Pierson, Elizabeth BRISCOE, d/o Permenas and Ann (BRISCOE) BRISCOE (see 314.2b). In 1792, Edward BRISCOE appeared on the Washington Co., KY, Tax List with 1 white over 21, and ___? acres of land. On 17 Jan 1820 an administrator's bond was issued for Walter Truman in the estate of Edward BRISCOE, dec., for $10000 with Harrison BRISCOE, William Samuels, and Dory Osborn as surety. On 15 May 1820 his personal etate was appraised by Harman Gratehouse, John Samuels, and Robert Livers; 7 negroes, 3 pages of household goods, Samuel BRISCOE, administrator, and on the same day the sale of the personal estate with Harrison and  Samuel BRISCOE the buyers. on 15 Dec 1822, an administrators bond for Walter Truman in the estate of Edward BRISCOE dec., for $10000 with Rudolphus Bukey as surety. 638.6h Elizabeth BRISCOE (Licenses 5 Nov) m. 24 Nov 1798, Berkeley Co., WV, by Rev. John Hiett, Joseph HEDGES. The suretor for the marriage was John O'Ferrel. At one point they were been in Nelson Co., KY, when Joseph was an executor along with Harrison BRISCOE in the will of John M. BRISCOE on 18 Aug 1817. (MDB63 p85, WVBE1)
