Quick Links

If you want to look at the DalekenMUD server this is the page where you can find source code and all of the server data for quick download. You can find instructions on how to install and run DalekenMUD here.

Here is a screenshot.

DalekenMUD-1.12-all.zip (1,413,400 bytes)
This is the complete Daleken release, version 1.12. Geocities wrecked the last one, I hope this is OK.
This file contains the following components:
  • Source code.
  • All data files, inc. original area files.
  • Extra documentation and help files.
Note that previous versions may be available on request.
Daleken-1.12-bin.zip (447,530 bytes)
This binary is compiled for people using Windows 95, 98, NT or 2000. Note that I have modified the code so that Borland C++ Builder can compile it, so this file doesn't require that you have Cygwin1.dll! Of course, if you have cygwin you can compile Daleken.
If you wish to run Daleken under Windoze, also download the complete release and follow the instructions here.
bzip2.zip (27,295 bytes)
This is a powerful block sorting compression program that compresses text to around 60% of the size that zip or gzip can. Windoze users will need this file in order to extract the complete distribution.
Most Unix like operating systems have bzip2 available, if you don't have a copy, visit the bzip2 homepage. This site has source code and binaries for most operating systems.

Clients

There are many clients available, but I have been using TinyFugue for quite a while now and I feel that for a purely text based client it is good, perhaps better than the majority of clients with fancy interfaces. The features list is quite impressive and recently I have added support for Mud Client Compression Protocol, which couples nicely with the support that the Daleken server now has. If you have zlib and you want to reduce your bandwidth use in mudding, try this client. Currently this only works on Unix based systems, but people are welcome to try alternatives for themselves.

tf-40s1-mccp.zip (408,452 bytes)
tf-40s1-mccp.patch.gz (7,278 bytes)
The compression code and protocol are the work of Oliver Jowett, I just patched them in and made a few modifications, you can read more at his homepage http://www.randomly.org/projects/MCCP/. Grab the patch only if you already have the tf-40s1 source.

Snippets

DalekenMUD contains a large number of ideas that could be applied to other MUDs that are loosely based on Merc or Envy. However, the code has been sufficiently modified that extracting code and manipulating it so it could be simply patched into a stock MUD isn't too easy. Thus I don't include many snippets on this page, instead I encourage people to download the code, run the MUD and find features that suit them. If you find a feature you like, you can then extract the relevant code from Daleken yourself.

If you find a feature that you can't seem to figure out, I will be willing to help you find what you need, just mail me the details. If you want to turn something into a snippet, please send me a copy so I can put it here.

Oh, and credit where credit is due please, check with me if you aren't sure who is responsible for some things if you have to.

Snippet Description
Aliases This snippet adds alias support to your Envy 2.2 MUD, any other style of MUD may require some modifications. This was written a while back but the code has been extensively tested.
Secure Trading Secure trading of items and money between players should not be an issue, however I have been involved in a couple of these rare nasty occurrences. This snippet adds an easy command interface so that players can trade items securely.
