The Sentence Master
By The Laureate Company
The Sentence Master is a revolutionary way to teach beginning reading developed by Dr. Marion Blank. Avoiding the confusing rules of phonics and the complexity of whole language, The Sentence Master focuses on the most frequently-used words of our language (i.e. "the,""is," "but," "and," etc.) By truly teaching these "little words," The Sentence Master gives students control over the majority of text they will ever encounter. First, the student spends 15-30 minutes working on the computer and writing activities that teach one word per day. After learning a set of 5 to 10 words, they read an animated story on the computer and then reads the same story on paper. All of the word activates and stories are designed so that children never see words that they have not fully mastered.

Consonant Blends and Digraphs
By Sunburst Technology Company
In this software program students blend consonant sounds and learn to recognize their spelling patterns through an engaging set of word-building activities. Students learn to discern fine distinctions of sound as they see and hear: consonant blends (2 letters that make 2 sounds: bl- or br-) and digraphs (2 letters that make 1 sound: -sh, or -ch). Students become more consistent in their ability to read, write, and spell words that contain combinations of consonant sounds.
